So happy for the bulldogs winning the ship! Even more happy for my good buddy Kyle Schmidt. I grew up with him and he was on just about every one of my youth hockey teams, as well as my high school team for 3 yrs and we graduated together. He is one of my best friends from high school and I am SUPER happy for him! He is a genuine great person, and it really is nice when you see good things happen to good people. It couldn't have happened to a better person, and the storyline couldn't get any better. Senior year, national championship, playing in your home state 2 hrs from home in front of all your friends and family and score the game winning goal in overtime! I still get goosebumps just thinking about it!!! I'm hoping he signs with a team in the NHL, and the exposure and his great play in the frozen four and his senior year open some doors for him.

Go Dogs!

A little late to the party but what an incredible game, Duluth really played great all game and I just had that feeling that nothing was going to stop them in OT!

Congrats to all UMD fans and the college/city of Duluth, this is a huge deal for a small school to rise up and take this title away from all the big power house programs in NCAA hockey, for sure a unbelievable season you will never forget. Also crazy to have so much local talent get them to and help win the NC.

From a TV perspective did anyone catch the F-bomb at the end of the game. After Schmitd scored and the team mobbed him the camera guys were in there, as they were peeling guys off there was Schmidt on the ice and someone jumps on him and yells out you ^F$*&($&!!!, you could hear it plain as day, I couldn't stop laughing.

Your buddy came through all right, he sounds like a great guy. He was quoted in the paper as saying he needed such an easy shot because of his nerves. I don't buy it. He buried that great feed with a perfect one timer. No chance for Hunwick to slide over to make the save.

He had a really nice goal in the semi final game too! He had a overall great performance in the frozen four.

He was definitely downplaying the GWG too. If you look at the replay, he was working hard down in the corner, cycled the puck down to Oleksuk deep in the corner/behind the net and then swung around the circle and came right out infront of the net looking for a pass. That is exactly how 'cycling' the puck is taught and he pulled it off to a T. Hopefully the youngsters watching take note! It was a great play

As a UMD alum I was both extremey thrilled and horribly disappointed Saturday night. Let me explain...when I was at UMD, I rarely missed a game...loved wathing the Dogs, even in the down years...

This past Saturday I got a call from a good friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a couple of years, he was given 2 free tickets to the game, and called to invite me to go with for FREE!

Unfortunately, it was my wifes 30th birthday on Saturday, and since I don't want to get a divorce, I was forced to turn down a chance to be at the game and ended up watching the game at Kierans in mpls. We had a great time, I am still married, and the Dogs are national champs!!

You can always find a new wife.

Dude- I'm not good looking, have no personality, no money and spend too much time fishing and golfing. I was lucky to get this one....finding another is a long shot at best. grin

Dylan, You made the right choice. Marriage trumps hockey. In my case I'd probably be divorced if I didn't take my wife to the game. And to think I had to justify the ticket prices to her after winning the East Regional smile

On the flip side I can say with certainty we will never get another one at home like this, so I totally understand your frustration. Man what a finish, I still get all goo-ey inside thinking about it. I can't imagine the feeling the players have, especially the ones from Duluth area.

Thanks Travis Oleksuk, Kyle Schmidt, and "Jupiter" from the Penalty Box for the photo. This one will be computer desktop photo for quite awhile.

That's a tough choice, but you probably made the right long term decision...still FREE tickets...wow. I hope she knows how good she's got it if a guy turns down FREE tickets to the NCAA Champs game when your School is in it.

That was one of the best games I've seen in a looooong time. Lots of fun to watch.

The goal itself was fast and slow. I remember seeing the great feed from Oleksuk, but didn't see the quick shot from Duluth native Schmiddy. Saw the puck in the net, seemed like a second ticked by very slowly, saw the red light turn on, and then the place just ERUPTED!!!

There was kind of a long pause there, I remember seeing the back of the net move and I jumped up and yelled!! Then everyone else I was watching the game with and the rest of the arena finally figured out what was going on.

I don't know Dylan, knowing what we know now giving the wife and rain check and maybe kicking in some extra dollars for a very nice gift and kissing arse for a month might have been the better move.

Then again all women are different, I think I could have pulled it off with my wife but would have certainly taken some heat for it.

It would have been nice to see the game live though...Is it bad the the first thought I had when I was offered the ticket was "well, it's been a good run, I'll miss her." ?

What a game....even watching at a bar where 90% of the people had no interest was amazing! So jealous of you guys that went!

My wife probably would have taken the ticket and told me to have a nice evening. Of course I did threaten to host her 30th at a funeral home.

The good news is she is the one who puts in for the tickets every year. Unfortunately this is the third time I have had to watch the Sioux lose in the semis, at least it wasn't BC this time.

I have my National Championship Hats and T-shirts sitting by the computer as I type. I wore them down to the cities this week and rubbed it in all the goofers fans faces. LOL.

THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES DOGS! Just think I played basketball in high school/college. Never thought I could be any sort of hockey fan. grincrazy

Here's another Bulldog F4 video for those with 11 minutes on their hands. Had most of the goals scored for UMD, if not all. I'm sure it gets old for some, but I can keep watching these over and over.

Reminded me how much Reiter completely owned Union, even though they had the highest ranking PP in the nation and were given about a million opportunities. Showed an awesome highlight of MCon's Yale goal at 3:18 mark. And how they took #1 overall ranked team Yalies to school in the 2nd period. Also liked how they switched to Bruce Ciskie's game call at 9:42 for the Michigan OT Winner. Bruce is the play by play radio guy up in Duluth and he goes completely bonkers.

According to Pates at DNT, here is the resolution that the Minnesota State Senate passed on Monday. In attendance were Sandy, Max Tardy, and Kenny Reiter.

"WHEREAS, three regulation periods found the Bulldogs and Wolverines tied at two, but Kyle Schmidt’s goal at 3:22 into overtime secured the victory and, with it, the first national hockey title for UMD"

Nice!

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
