Hey Team 9! Im FBMH, better known as Cody Croteau. Im from La Crosse, WI. I will be hunting next weekend with a buddy during the 5th season, I belive season "E". We will be hunting a new property off of my friends sisters land and we have been seeing good numbers of toms getting around so hoping we can put the smackdown on a good bird! I will be filming so it should be interesting and hopefully i can help you fellas out!

Lets put the SMACKDOWN on the other guys!

Nothing thus far - plenty of short stories and whining.....gonna give it a whirl tomorrow for a couple hours and maybe Sunday. Birds are few and far between. Still beautiful time in Gods creation - could have been at work instead!!!

I've been putting a invisble fence on my yard all day, the wife yells from the deck, look behind you there is a pheasant watching you...i turn around and a beautiful tom stands about 30 yards away, taunting me. What a day!

Jpettit, haven't heard your "D" season story yet.

Me and FBMH start our WS seasons this Wednesday, good luck FBMH!

Waterfowler starts his MN archery season this Friday. I saw a ton of birds around the metro yesterday, good luck!

Abndoc has one more crack at those WS birds next Wednesday.

I still feel really bad for not being able to have my KS bird scored for this contest. (even though he wouldn't have scored much) All you guys need to pick me and Cooter up. Good luck all!

Went out yesterday to setup the blind with my buddy and just after we got it setup, we took about 20 steps out to check it out and see how it looks and we hear something walking behind it. Lone and behold, its the 26lb 10.5in beard (estimated)tom we are going after this week! Only set my hopes higher than what they already were! Should be a good week fellas!

Any advice for next week? Do I keep the jake and hen decoy going? I'm going to try the same spot the first 2 days, and then probably head down by the river, been seeing a good number of birds down there.

Keep 'em untill you can see for sure that they are shying away from them, then drop to maybe one hen, if they still don't like it, go without. I'm still seeing big flocks together, that tells me the decs should still be working.

Good luck! I start tomorrow and am pretty excited to get out of town!

Well, WE GOT ONE! will have video and pictures up later. Started at 630 with the first hen and ended at 730 with a beautiful tom. Not huge, but defineatly a nice bird. 9.5in beard 1in spurs and 22lbs

Good job! We just returned last night from my WS hunt. I shot a 23+ lb bird the first morning, but boy, did it get tough after that. I'll post a report later when I've got more time.

I was hunting with my uncle and we just got back from walking around. We were in a blind for 20 minutes when three Jakes came in. They finally got in range so I took my shot and hit the biggest one, making him roll a couple of times. The Jake was 18lbs. with 1/4 in. spurs and 5in beard. I'll take that for my first bird. My dad will post a picture tomorrow.

      Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.

      If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.

      Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...

      Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
