Good start to the tourney--UMD 2, Union 0

We have a wide range of champions picked, it'd pretty cool....19 guys inthe group...7 different champions.

UND- 9

Miami-3

Denver- 2

UMD- 2

Michigan-1

BC- 1

Yale-1

My only hope is that you guys that picked UND will be out after round 1...nothing worse than a UND fan! grin

Wow, 3 guys picked CC to beat BC. I would have guessed 0 or 1. Bear55, TSteich10, and archerystud. Clairvoyant!

My St Louis bracket is completely dead. Still seeing BC fly home so early is a treat.

Yeah but that game killed my tiebreaker

At least you put in a tiebreaker, I swear I put in 93 but it didn't take and by the time I figured it out I was stuck with a big fat zero.

I am also pretty surprised there were a couple others that picked CC over BC, looks like a few more bracket busting upsets today with UNH over Miami and WM up on Denver.

Lucky I guess, you kind of knew there were going to be some upsets. I like the way CC played against the Sioux and they are the same kind of small speedy team that could throw BC's game back in their face. I don't think anyone expected a blowout.

I almost picked New Hampshire for an upset too but chickened out.

Should be a good one today, anyone else see another OT game between the Sioux and Denver?

Not to take anything away from Denver but I'm very confident in UND today. The last time they played UND didn't bring there average game that day. They didn't have a few players in that line up either.

I hope your right brooks. The Sioux came out very flat against RPI and their first power play was pathetic. I thought much of the game they just didn't look sharp. I love the Sioux, but an effort like that against Denver isn't going to cut it. This is also the most neutral ice that Denver has seen all year against the Sioux too. I liked to see the Dogs and the Sioux at the end.

I was pretty confident in my pick of CC upsetting BC for a few reasons. the biggest one was that they played tough against what may possibly be the best team in the nation, ND. that proved to me they could be a legit contender in the tournament. although their record wasn't the best looking of teams in the tournament, if you look at their matchups in their last 10 games or so you can see they started to click and figure everything out.

this was similar to Western Michigan, all season long the beat or competed with their best competition, and struggled with some of the worse teams which hurt their record. I really wasn't all that surprised to see them keep it close with Denver. Had they matched up against a majority of the teams in the tournament other than DU, I strongly had them under consideration to be an upset team as well.

Merrimack is my only disappointment so far, I expected far more from them. I also considered, and should have, picked New Hampshire over Miami but wasn't quite sure which NH team would show up to play.

]Tie breakers are for children, I am the only one who picked Michigan.

I had Michigan in the Frozen Four. Of course, that is the only team that I have correct in the FF. I overestmated Miami. Thought Denver would win the rematch with the Sioux. When I picked Yale over UMD, I really wanted UMD to win...so I was wrong, but happy. I'm sitting not too bad in the standings right now, but I have nothing left...

Agreed, let's go for an all WCHA final.

Hmmmm I am at a philosophical crossroads, do I cheer for my current conference or my new Big10 conference? One must also take their Pickem bracket into account. I also hate both the Sioux and Michigan, it's a different kind of hate but something one must take into account during these difficult decisions. It's really too bad they both can't lose.

I guess I could hope for a 5OT thriller so the winner is a little physically and mentally worn out for UMD. Go Dogs!

Let's not let Michigan-UND go to 5 OT. A man has to eventually go home and get some sleep to attend work on Friday. 4 Overtimes ought to be just about perfect for a win by the Fighting Flicker Tails.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
