frabill hub house??

Grubstake

just make sure that it is a square one and not a rectangle. those can be a bugger to set up and take down. but I love my quickfish3. 2min or less to set up. 2 min or less to take down. and find some indoor/outdoor carpet for a floor or marine carpet. it's nice to have some footing when next to spear hole.

it's 60" x 60" x 67", I am thinking the black canvas would be better than the Eskimo????

Eskimo has a dark inner liner so the light doesn't come in. I don't know how any other brands of hub style hold up but my eskimo has been set up over 100 times now and still takes the abuse. I got to hand it to em for their zipper durability on the doors too.

One word of caution on the Frabills. I have the base camp and like to use it for spearing, plenty of room. but I have had several hubs break through the nylon or whatever the material is around the hub and then the hub and the 4 rods fall out. This didn't happen till its second season of use. And I was able to fix one with a washer, but it made it hard to fold up because the washer is kinda big. Just thought I'd let you know, but maybe you've bought one already. Other than that problem I really like the house.

EDIT

Just talked to cust. service at frabill and they said to send it in and look it over and if it looks to be "defective" Which it obviously was they would replace it, which would be nice. So we will see how that turns out.

i have an AP outdoors XI3 which would be better for spearing than my spearhouse. Its same size as the frabil, but has a few different features, for one the fabic itself is heavier, and 2 the zipper configuration is a tad different. For about the same money. And would recommend one anytime.

Reeds also stocked the XI3 but you may want to call them first as they didnt have them when I was there last. the internet said they had them in stock and showed up they were out. Emails take about a week before they respond

best of luck on you search

Sounds like pretty good customer service!

.

Just wanted to up date ya'll. I sent in my broken Frabill to their headquarters a few weeks ago. Well today UPS dropped off a nice white box, and inside was a brand new ice house, same model and everything. I was just expecting them to fix it. Only cost to me was to ship it to them, and I included a little note saying what was wrong with it. I give 2 thumbs up to frabill for their cust. service!

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
