matt_shermoen
A houseboat vacation on Rainy Lake with Rainy Lake Houseboats is a great way to explore Voyageurs National Park. Voyageurs National Park is the only inland water-based park in the National Park System. It is located near the center of the greatest system of interconnected waterways on earth where no roads can be found.Renting a Rainy Lake Houseboat and exploring Rainy Lake and Voyageurs National Park opens a wide range of vacation opportunities. Mold your houseboat vacation into a family reunion, gathering of friends and neighbors, church group outing, or a great fishing trip. Enjoy all Rainy Lake has to offer, beautiful wilderness scenery, beaches, some of the world’s greatest freshwater fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, crappie and musky, wildlife and bird watching.Fishing on Rainy Lake is a dream come true for all anglers. Few lakes in the world can offer walleyes, northern pike, smallmouth, black crappies and muskies for your fishing experience. Many professional anglers rank Rainy Lake as the very top multi-specie lake in the world. With the action starting soon after ice-out and continuing through the color-change of fall, there is no slow time on Rainy Lake. The diversity of Rainy’s waters is what makes it a tremendous fishing lake. It is a glacial lake with a good mix of medium-shallow bays to the north and deep waters in all three arms. Add in weedy bays, currents, mud flats and submerged rock piles and your fishing opportunities are endless.Animals and birds vie with the land and water for your attention as you cruise the ancient waterways. White-tailed deer, black bear, beaver, mink, otters and moose appear seemingly out of nowhere. Bald eagles, hawks and ospreys drift silently overhead. Blue herons and snow-white pelicans swoop down to fish the shallows. Loons and cormorants briefly surface from the granite stained waters as if to say hello before disappearing once again.SPECIAL OFFER TO FIRST TIMERS:Contact BORDER COUNTRY OUTDOOR ADVENTURES, we will help you book your vacation with Rainy Lake Houseboats, all you have to do is mention First Timers Offer… and recieve one FREE day of guided fishing! Fishing should be good, make sure to have some Northland Tackle worm harness spinners and 1/8oz. jigs with you.

Fish Head
I've done the camping in Voyageurs National Park many times, but I haven't done the houseboat trip. I would love to do that someday! Hopefully one day I'll be able to talk the wife into it.
tcwin
I have done many trips with RLHB and always had a blast. We have even taken their boats into the North Arm a couple of times. It is a great way to see the lake.
Tom Buckles
This summer, my wife and I along with her dad spent a week on a houseboat. We all had a great time. I cant wait to get back and do it again.
GrizzlyAdams
The houseboat trip for me is in the very top of the best vacations I have ever taken. We are planning on possibly doing it again this summer. Have to see how the money situation is going to be in a couple months or so. We stayed for a week and it went by so fast. We were so sad to leave the house boat and head back home. Last summer we went to Vegas instead and it was a hard choice to not get the house boat again. As stated it ranks up there as one of the best vacations of my life so far. RLHB went out of their way to make sure we had a good time and that everything went smoothly. For those doing it for the first time (especially those on Rainy for the first time) I would HIGHLY suggest getting a guide for atleast one day. We hired one for the next day after we boarded the boat and was the best money spent on the trip. We were shown several good areas to fish for the rest of the week. We had him point out other areas to try and what to use as well so that we could make the most of or week of fishing. We were on the water from sun up to sun down every day and had an absolute blast. Looking forward to the next house boat trip. Can't come soon enough. If you have never done it, DO IT. You won't regret it and I know you will be planning your next trip before you even get off the House boat.
Wanderer
My wife and I just started looking at setting up a HB vacation for this summer. It looks like RLHB has the nicest boats that we've seen. We have a few questions that haven't been answered by any FAQ's that we've read. If someone would fill me in on a couple things I would appreciate it since we're looking at all the optional models and several different time frames. We would like to balance a good fishing trip with warmer weather. The guys like to fish and don't care so much about bugs and swimming but the ladies want to slide off the boat, float in tubes and generally lounge around in the open air. What are the best months for that? A compromise I mean. I would like an upper bridge to drive the boat from. I know the bigger models have this but we might need to get a smaller one. From 1-10, how nice is this feature? Hot tubs? From 1-10 is this feature a trip maker? How much fuel do these rigs carry? I understand we can possibly make it a week without refueling but I'd like to know about how many gallons a person burns in an average week. All things considered these HB vacations get rave reviews and cost about the same as any other week of travel and hotel. I can't think of a better way to spend a week in MN for a vacation. Looking forward to it.

Dock Boy
Don't forget about Voyagaire Lodge and Houseboats on Crane Lake. I believe they have the nicest boats in the area. 4 brand new boats for 2011 and 2 new boats last year. Not sure if anyone in the area has put more into boats in the last few years. Customer service second to none. www.houseboatvacation.com. Video tours of boats online!!!
