Terrova or Power Drive v2

Whopper Stopper

Is the Terrova worth the extra $250-$300 over the Power Drive? When I buy a new motor I am going to get at least a 70lb thrust, which I can have in the Power Drive v2. I am just wondering if the Terrova is that much better of a motor. I have a 17.5 Alumacraft Nav with a 115 Yammaha. Thanks for any comments.

i have never owned a terrova so i can't comment on how much better it is or isn't. i have the pd v2 70lb on my alumacraft trophy 175. in my opinion a 70 lber is more than suffecient on my boat. plenty of motor for dealing with the current on the river and windy days on the bigger lakes. i would have a hard time dropping the extra money since i have yet to be in a situation where the pd didn't do everything i asked it to do. not saying that the terrova isn't nicer in some ways but for me the pd does everything i ask of it and i was able to spend the money saved on other gear. best luck

Probably the most noticable difference in the two models is the i-Pilot functionality -- with the Terrova you can use the foot control or the i-Pilot remote control, but with the V2 you can only use the i-Pilot remote control. If you're getting the i-Pilot this could be an important point for you.

Otherwise, the Terrova is a newer model but both are still current models.

The Terrova has a new design for the stow and deploy system --- some people thought the stow and deploy on the PowerDrives was hard to use ---- personally I never had a problem with the PowerDrive's mechanism.

And the Terrova has a new design for the foot pedal --- it's bigger, and you can do heel and tow steering like you can with a cable drive motor. Personally I prefer the PowerDrive's foot pedal over the Terrova's because it's smaller.

Both are good motors, both should work great on your boat. Hope that helps.

I got the Terrova with i-pilot over a PD for one main reason. I figure that when the next generation or two of i-pilot come out it will be more likely that the Terrova will be upgradable than the PD. Now that may or may not happen, but I think the odds are better with the Terrova since it is the newer model.

You can use the Terrova pedle either heel to toe like the cable drives or like the power drive units, yes they are bigger but you can turn on and off everything with the tap of a toe on the Terrova pedals. Having run both hands down the Terrova for me.

I also think it is waaaaaaaay easier to adjust the speed with your foot on a Terrova versus a Power Drive.

I'm debating the same thing for my Tourney 175.

For those that have used both, how is the response time when setting a direction on the terrova vs the PD?

Do they have about the same amount of tracking error before making a correction?

I bought a Terrova 101# thrust last summer and I love it. Ease of use, lots of power with the 36 volt set up. Pushes my 19 foot boat nicely.

Search online for a better price than stores. I found mine $500 cheaper from a close out place in Illinois.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
