Whopper Stopper
Is the Terrova worth the extra $250-$300 over the Power Drive? When I buy a new motor I am going to get at least a 70lb thrust, which I can have in the Power Drive v2. I am just wondering if the Terrova is that much better of a motor. I have a 17.5 Alumacraft Nav with a 115 Yammaha. Thanks for any comments. WS
gregg52
cant speak for v2 i have 80lb terrova on a 20 ft glass boat and like it iwould think 70lb on a 17ft tin boat would be good plenty of power
Ralph Wiggum
I think the Terrova is that much better.
rmb
i have never owned a terrova so i can't comment on how much better it is or isn't. i have the pd v2 70lb on my alumacraft trophy 175. in my opinion a 70 lber is more than suffecient on my boat. plenty of motor for dealing with the current on the river and windy days on the bigger lakes. i would have a hard time dropping the extra money since i have yet to be in a situation where the pd didn't do everything i asked it to do. not saying that the terrova isn't nicer in some ways but for me the pd does everything i ask of it and i was able to spend the money saved on other gear. best luck
PerchJerker
Probably the most noticable difference in the two models is the i-Pilot functionality -- with the Terrova you can use the foot control or the i-Pilot remote control, but with the V2 you can only use the i-Pilot remote control. If you're getting the i-Pilot this could be an important point for you.Otherwise, the Terrova is a newer model but both are still current models. The Terrova has a new design for the stow and deploy system --- some people thought the stow and deploy on the PowerDrives was hard to use ---- personally I never had a problem with the PowerDrive's mechanism. And the Terrova has a new design for the foot pedal --- it's bigger, and you can do heel and tow steering like you can with a cable drive motor. Personally I prefer the PowerDrive's foot pedal over the Terrova's because it's smaller. Both are good motors, both should work great on your boat. Hope that helps. Can'tFishEnuf
I got the Terrova with i-pilot over a PD for one main reason. I figure that when the next generation or two of i-pilot come out it will be more likely that the Terrova will be upgradable than the PD. Now that may or may not happen, but I think the odds are better with the Terrova since it is the newer model.
Whopper Stopper
Wow, thanks for the input! I didn't realize that about the foot control. I have never been able to get use to a foot controller. If that is a main differance in the two I will optfor the V2. Thanks everyone! Esox_Magnum
You can use the Terrova pedle either heel to toe like the cable drives or like the power drive units, yes they are bigger but you can turn on and off everything with the tap of a toe on the Terrova pedals. Having run both hands down the Terrova for me.
gdog
I have the Terrova but I find myself never even hooking up the foot control. I like having that extra power though and I think it is worth the expense.

Kyhl
I'm debating the same thing for my Tourney 175.For those that have used both, how is the response time when setting a direction on the terrova vs the PD?Do they have about the same amount of tracking error before making a correction? JakeJ_Mn
I bought a Terrova 101# thrust last summer and I love it. Ease of use, lots of power with the 36 volt set up. Pushes my 19 foot boat nicely. Search online for a better price than stores. I found mine $500 cheaper from a close out place in Illinois.
