Moonshine
I am getting ready to do a remodel on our master bath and have a slight issue with the vanity. It appears to be a custom made unit and fits into a very defined location. The current unit is white, we would like some shade of wood. I was wondering if anyone has experience in DIY cabinet refacing. I’ve seen a couple options online, however hoped to find a retailer in the metro (hopefully SE metro) to talk with and get materials. It doesn’t seem too difficult with just replacing doors/drawer fronts and cutting veneer facing to fit. I assume this would be a significantly cheaper option than having a custom made vanity. Trying to keep costs down a bit since the travertine really ate up some of the budget. Any tips or leads in the right direction are much appreciated. pureinsanity
Are you able to remove the vanity and strip it? Another option is to repaint it, and take a fine grit sandpaper to the edges and it will give it a warn look. I kinda like this look!
Moonshine
Yes, I plan to remove the vanity. I want to paint the interior so it is not white when the exterior is not. That does look really nice, however we would like the wood appearance.

FishLocker
If you have nice wood under that paint, then refinish. Hopefully there is no good reason for covering the wood with paint =). If it is an older install, you may also decdide you want the old growth grain that is hiding under the paint instead of new wood.Refinishing may be eaiser than installing a new laminate veneer if you do not already have the clamps, router bits etc. And if you did not like the refinishing results, you can always laminate with veneer later.I just completed a strip and refinish of a complete set of kitchen and master bathroom cabinets for a client in Prior Lake. They started out so dark they were almost black and are now Honey Gold with grain highlights. I use Zinsser Power Strip and their wash. Proper scrub pads and respirator are needed (if you are doing this inside) so feel free to PM me if you want details. The FishLocker

Surface Tension
What is your width? I'm thinking built in and not custom. Got any pictures? Without seeing what you have and its condition, you might be better off buying a new vanity and using filler strips on each side to fill in. Moonshine
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, been out of town. The cabinet is 83" wide and goes from up tight on one wall to the tub on the other end. The cabinet is covered in either a melamine sheet or plastic laminate. I stopped at the local paint store (Sherwin Williams) and asked if it could be painted. They said it could, just need to rough it a bit. I am going to call PF today to see what his refacing option is. Also looking for paint options like antiquing or like insanity showed in his picture above.
Moonshine
One other thing I forgot to add is that the vanity is only nine years old and in excellent shape. I hate to just throw it away and buy new since it is very functional, great storage and we really like the comfort height.

Ruff it up, hit it with things to add dents and or character. Paint it and take a fine grit sandpaper and sand the edges down to the wood or color it was before. Best part is if you do not like an area you did, clean it, paint it and retry!

PurpleFloyd
Not really looking for business. This sort of thing really wouldn't make me anything but if I can help a fellow member out then I will do it. I actually would probably give a few suggestions that might cost little or nothing as an alternative...
