IAFishhawk
I am looking to upgrade my bow mount trolling motor to a new wireless hand fob controlled unit. I currently have an older Motor Guide 24 volt 74# thrust with the foot control. The motor handles my boat very well, so I will stick with one similar to my current motor. My question is, which brand would you go with? I'm leaning towards the Motor Guide because of the cost factor, and I have been happy with the performance of my current Motor Guide. Also has there been any problems with the fob controlled units? Look forward to your input!!
CAMAN
I'd go with the MinnKota simply for the iPilot option.
Larson15
Minnkota for sure
Murdock
Per the Motor CLinic in Bloomington, they repair Minkotas and Motorguides, the Minkotas have bigger brushes which means better power flow, fewer break downs.
Esox_Magnum
Having run both, Minn Kota hands down.
IAFishhawk
Thanks for the info...the Minn Kota V2 Power Drive 70# with the I-Pilot looks like a decent value, any thoughts?
UKCM
I have a motor guide and love it. But I will tell you this in Minnesota if you are basically anywhere you can get a MinnKota parts. That is not true with a Motorguide. Go down south and it is but Minnesota is ruled by MinnKota.
h8go4s
If you are a cast-and-retrieve fisherman, understand that you can't get a V2 with both i-pilot and foot control. The terrova does have that capability. For trolling, i-pilot probably works ok, but not for casting & retrieving.http://www.hotspotoutdoors.com/forum/ubb..._pe#Post2465627Ron. Esox_Magnum
I love the Terrova/I Pilot for casting, cruise control and cast, make minor adjustments easily with the pedal, hook a fish hit the anchor lock and stay put till she's released and then keep going, no missed water or missed casts. 100X better than my current Maxxum Pro. One thing I don't care for on all the wireless MG I have run is the delay in reaction and never knowing for sure where the power is set at. Northlander
Minnkota. The Motor Guide I had was junk and didnt make it 2 summers. Fixed it, sold it and got a Minnkota and havent had a issue in 7 years.
Down Deep
Over the years I've had both brands. 20 years ago I bought my first Motor Guide out of frustration with the quality of MinnKota which had all kinds of problems with parts falling off and power failures. I had two Motor Guide for several years and then noticed that MinnKota had greatly improved in quality and innovation. I switched back to to MinnKota and have no issues with them. I'd recommend a MinnKota.
bucketmouth64
My boat came with a Tracker, which is a motor guide. Terrible in weeds constantly pulling them off. Finally installed a MinnKota and have not had the weed problems. If you fish more open waters I've heard motor guides do well.
