I am in the market for a new pair of boots and have been looking far and wide for a pair that will be multi purpose without much luck. I am going on an elk hut this fall and will wear them for other hunts in the future. I wear size 14 and 15 depending on the brand so I am fighting a tough battle to start but would like input on places to look or brands to try.

I have read everyones feelings about the danner pronghorn but dislike the fit.

I have looked at kenetrek but it is tough to experiment with an expensive pair like that. Are they worth it? Anyone have them?

Anyone wear Lowa?

How about meindl? Do the sizes run true?

Any luck with Red Wings?

I am really trying to find a great fitting boot that has big sizes and any input would be great.

Red Wing is a good place to check out. Their boots are outstanding and they have a great selection of sizes because they cater to the work boot crowd.

I have 4 pairs of Red wings. 2 are for work only, another pair is for upland hunting and the newest pair is a winter boot. Its got 800 gram of thinsulate and a good sole. Check them out.

I can't tell where you live, but they have stores everywhere. The guy in Hopkins is awesome. Its where I buy mine. He's been selling Red Wing for like 25yrs and they have a new bigger store right on Excelsior Blvd just east of Shady Oak Rd.

I wear my boots every day, summer and winter, it will be the only shoe i wear untill i need a new pair. I've had at least 5 pair of rocky's and they don't make 6 months before something starts going wrong with them, but they are real comfortable. i've had 2 pair of cabellas brand boot, super comfortable, but they have scentlock built in and after about 6 months my feet stink so bad the dogs don't even carry them around the house, but i get about a year per pair. currently i have a pair of irish setters, they're about a year and a half old and not a hole or tear in them, but are the most uncomfortable boot for my foot i hate them, but i can't wear them out to get another pair of cabellas brand.

Bought my first pair of Danners last summer. Getting tough to find safety toe/gore tex combo. Work as an excavating supervisor so put my boots to the test. Waiting to see how they last to pass final judgement but they definitely passed the comfort test. Wifey loves her hunting pair. Plenty to test fit at cabela's. My question would be if the same quality boot is sold at the big box store vs direct from mfg. I order direct from danner site.

I have owned rockies, cabelas brands, and current own three pair of danners. I wear a 14 so I know what you are talking about. the danners seem to fit true but they make boots with different lasts. I ordered one pair of their hiking boots and they were super narrow.

that being said, the most comfortable danners I own are the Pronghorn model. It has 400 grains of thinsulate and a goretex liner. I wear them deer hunting and are more than warm enough if I am moving around in thecold and winter. I also own an uninsulated pair of hiking boots and some 1200 grain insulated ones that I wear ice fishing or sitting on the deer stand. I think the pronghorns are the most comfrotable boots I have ever owned and will buy them once my current ones need it. they are on year 4 and still feel great and are still water proof.........

+1 on the Irish Setters by Red Wing. Can't beat the quality and comfort for the price. I've also heard alot of good things about Danner.

Because you said you've got big feet, i'm going to suggest Irish Setters...I have bought a couple of different pairs of boots over the last few weeks trying to find one that is waterproof, warm, and FITS.

Went with Irish Setter Size 15 Wide OUTRIDER 1000. The King Toe Knee boot has a slightly bigger toe for extra warmth and movement. Great fit, and super comfortable. Well worth the price...and i've already made sure that they're completely waterproof!

You won't find a pair of lacross boots that fit you, and probably not danner either...

I have the Irish Setters Outrider 1000 as well and they are awesome. I also have size 15 wide. Great boot.

I have had Irish Setter, Rockys, Danners, and others. Danners were the best of that bunch. Then I tried the Schnees Beartooth. The Schnees are heads and shoulders above any of the others i have tried. They have the best customer service as well. The soles are very important for elk hunting, you need some serious grips to stick on those mountains I have found.

I did a lot of research for hunting boot this past fall and decided to go with 1200 Danner pronghorns. I wore the for the first time

Dec 1st pheasent hunting. 6 weeks later the stitching on the toe guards is coming loose. Comfortable boots, a little heavy but did like them. So after winter I will be taking them back (1 year warranty) now I don't know what I will be replacing the with, I don't think I will try Danner again.
