Whitebass fishing.

Does anyone on here go whitebass fishing on the Mississipi R.? If you do would you mind sharing some lure with me. I went there a few years back when I was visiting (now living), and since they now have a law that you can't use the shiners in the river catching them has been extremely difficult.

I've seen people around me use some kind of lure, and they just catch one after another on every cast. Then I just want to leave, but I don't like giving up so does anyone have any suggestion to fishing white bass.

Go to lure is always a white rooster tail spinner.

Chartreuse marabou jigs 2-3 ft under a weighted bobber also work well at times.

I never liked mepps or panther martins as the blade never seemed to spin reliably as a rooster tail.

I also try to use different approaches then most, rapalas work well. Especially husky jerks, and x-raps work well. Silver or shad type colors work well.

When you've found a school, jig hook and fathead minnow work well too.

Basically anything that represents a shad, which is their main forage food in the river. Good luck, white bass fishing is fun. Nothing beats a day of white bass fishing, nothing feels better then going to bed from a full day of fishing white bass. Sore arms and a sunburn are good feelings, when you've been catching hundreds of white bass all day!!!

If you want monster white bass, you gotta try Devils Lake, ND. They make the Mississippi and St. Croix white bass look small.

Thanks magnum and bassman. Those are some good infos.

I know I've been hearing about devils lake, ND and want to go but going 8hrs for white bass is kind of far. Lol. However, I still want to go, but will have to see how things go for me because I don't yet know the places where white basses are located.

However fishing from the shore is the husky rap a good idea?

Honestly, It's worth it. The Whities out there are phenominal. Also, the Northerns are big and numerous. Don't worry if you get blown off the lake. We were out there one weekend and could not get out in a boat due to HUGE, unsafe winds (seriously, NOBODY went out). We drove Highway 2 and turned onto some of those roads they built up due to the rising water and had some wind blowing on them. WB galore more toward as well as in "Channel A". NP that went 3-5 lbs and were easier to pick up than the WB. Smaller cranks, small plastics and top waters (in the area with little/no wind) for the WB. We picked up NP on spinnerbaits, Rattle Raps, and spoons. Rattle Raps worked best because they cast so well into stiff winds so we threw them the most. Best shore fishing I ever had.
