flip over that fits in a car

So i returned my summit as it broke. And am now looking at a flip over instead.

I normally fish alone, but occasionally will bring someone along.

Went to gander, and they mostly had clam setup.

The Kenai was too tight and I thought the Scout TC was nice but the entrance was low.

The nanook looked ok too.

I used to have a trekker dlx that would fit in my car.

Anyone have some other suggestions of ones to look at?

Well if your ever going to fish 2 people in it you will want something like a Otter Cabin. If its always going to be a 1 man get a Cottage. Tuff getting any 2 man flip in a car unless you bungy it in the trunk.

I've fished two in my Otter Cottage, but it was with someone I REALLY like.

It's a great one-person roomy flipover, and can do two in a pinch. I second the notion on the Cabin for two people in relative comfort. Same with the trunk/bungee deal.

Do you have a hitch? I have seen those platforms that go into the receiver hitches with fish houses on them. Also can be used for bike rack. Just an idea. I hate to be told something can't be done.

The one man flip over fits perfect in my car! there is even room for my auger in the trunk.

When I had it, I could fit my Frabill Trekker DLX in it. Guess i'm trying to find something similarly sized.

A few years ago I had a 2001 grandprix. My scout fit in the trunk but I had to bungie the trunk.

I am 6'1 in hieght and I have a Scout T/C. Very compact easy to use. The only time I use the front zipper door is when I have sealed my shelter with snow. I have no problem getting in an out of the front door as long as I move my Vexilar out of the way. You will find the Scout to be a smaller sled than the DLX. I flip it and forget it! Man I love this shelter!

I agree tough to beat a scout! My favorite house out there! I have zipper door on front as well but it only gets used as a vent... It's a fish trap got to flip Love that there are no adjustments to the bars just go... fastest fish house out there. Love it. The tc would be nice but I will have that when I add reflectix...someday

I was doing a little reading on the Scout, and people have voiced concerns about the size. I'm definitely not a little guy (6'1, 235) so this concerns me a little bit. Is it big enough to fit my vex and buddy heater in there comfortably? I reallllllly want a flip so I can start doing some hole hopping. The pop-up's just don't allow that very well.

Yep, I can fit my Ultra Pack, Vex and the buddy heater with no problem. I have my camera, it sits on the ice in front of the hole and between my feet. This shelter is not for somebody who carries alot of equippment. I spent alot of time and researched what other people were doing before going this route. I can move to another spot quick and within 3 minutes, I can be packed up and heading off the ice. As of last week Cabela's Rogers has a bunch still, and one on display. Try one out. I have a narrow body build, and It works for me. The Pro T/C is wider and longer, but it has the poles that you have to extend. Has the Scout sled but its turned longways. I hear they are a breeze to operate though. Get in line for the Pro T/C. Late September 2011, I would talk to your clam dealer about a purchase. Hope this helps

If you are indeed going solo and really want to hole hop, look into the lightest and smallest house around. Clam has about 18 different 1-man houses now (confusing) and Frabill has a few now, also. For for a bare-bones, lightweight 1-man look at the Clam Trapper or Kenai or the Frabill Recon, each around 50 lbs and should be able to fit in a car with flip-down seats.

If you want to go 2 man, there are a ton of options and some great deals out there right now. I have an Otter Cabin that fishes 2 with all kinds of room, and has room for my auger, Big Buddy and tall 10 lb tank, tackle bag, a bucket, camera, small cooler, and another small area for the rest of the small stuff. I have my rods and flasher in a Marcum bag that I keep with me for ease of access.

Well, just to update this thread a little bit.

I went out tonight and picked up a Frabill Recon DXL, and it fits in my trunk. I can almost actually shut the trunk, except for the seat gets in the way. I have no doubt though, that if my rear seats folded down, i'd get it into my car no problem. The other nice thing about it is that it looks like it will be plenty big to hold me and all of my gear comfortably.

Taking it out tomorrow for her maiden voyage! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that i'll have no problems with her like I did with those Clam popups.

Agreed, the Frabill Recon is a good choice for your application and needs.

The Clam Kenai is another good 1 man light shack.

I run the recon dlx...I love it! Its a little cramped for hook-sets but you learn to deal with it!

Looked/thought long & hard about what to get as I too wanted it to fit in the car trunk. I also wanted something light as I have been known to try and get away from the crowd. I puchased the Clam Trapper with the blue folding chair. It fits in the back of my Metro Sedan and is one of the lightest ones on the market. I have used it three times and am satisfied with my purchase as it fits my situation.

That said, I did not plan to use the chair as I have a specially designed bucket that I use (one rectangular kitty litter bucket inside another). I gave the blue folding chair to my father since he likes a folding chair with a back support. First day out, he is sitting in it and the seat rips out, collapsing the new chair. I read on the bottom of the chair that it is designed to hold 225 pounds. He is about 250.

When we buy a replacement for our two man, I will strongly consider Frabill as it is Made in America. Just my 2 cents. Tight lines.

Ended up purchasing a Clam Scout TC.

Got a good deal on a used on in perfect condition.
