Coyote in the yard!

Recommended Posts

My wife's office faces the back yard, which transitions to woods on the way down to Shagawa Lake, with almost no development of any type back there. Aside from the usual deer and birds, we've gotten coyotes, wolves and bears in the back yard, as well as a weasel or two.

This coyote came looking for a bird meal this morning, and Lisa was able to pick up her digital P&S and get a quick one as the coyote trotted through the yard. Bonus bird is a female pine grosbeak.

Wow, thats a great shot even with a p&s and great opportunity!

I wonder if the deep snow is inviting some animals to move into town where its easier to get around and find food. I read an article and saw pictures of coyotes on Minnesota point and a bobcat in Duluth too.

Jason, this coyote pack is with us in the area all year around. Wolves don't come into town much, and wolves will kill coyotes pretty often, so the coyotes are limited mostly to the edge of active wolf range. That makes the edge of town a good place to be a coyote. We get them howling in our yard and neighborhood fairly regularly, but this is the first time we've had a look at one here.
