leaders

Advantage is Flouro lasts longer, no kinks, bending ect, they dont dissapear by any means 130# flouro or bigger is still easily seen. I have been running the same 2 Stealths for 2 going on 3 seasons now, sometimes go through 1-2 wire ones a week or even a day. I can't think of a reason to not run them in fact. I run 12" 130 or maybe 150# Stealths.

I'm with Esox on this one. Durability is without a doubt a more important factor to me in choosing fluoro over wire. Although they cost more per leader, that's irrelevant with how many wire leaders you would go through for every fluoro leader.

Just be aware that there's a lot of fluoro leaders on the market. Some good. Some that I wouldn't trust at all. The Stealth leaders are top quality all the way around.

Some people like wire leaders for jerk baits/walk the dog baits. But I haven't found a bait that fluoro doesn't work with. 130# or higher is what I would suggest for most applications when it comes to muskies.

As far as length, 12" to 14" is pretty standard for casting. If you're looking for trolling leaders you'll want to go longer. 36" is typical for trolliing leaders. The longer fluoro leaders help to protect the fish when they roll up in your line which they are known for doing when trolling.

The only time I use wire is when I'm throwing a glider or walk-the-dog topwater. I use a straight 174# wire with no ball bearing swivel. Any other bait (mainly blades, rubber, or prop-style topwater), I run a 15" 150# flouro leader. I agree with Esox_Magnum, there's no reason not to run flouro, they TYPICALLY last a lot longer and don't kink. Just be sure to check your leader after every fish, because they can get knicked up, and when they do, put a new one on.

Well, call me old fashioned but I still use wire for all my leaders and have had none of the problems mentioned here. I make my own and they are coated so I don't have that many problems with kinks. Muskies aren't leader shy and I just don't see any reason (Most of the time)for a floro leader. It's still just mono afterall and I don't like using anything they can bite right off. If you build them correctly a wire leader doesn't fail under pressure. I have been making my own for about 15 years now and I have never lost a fish or a bait to leader failure. Snaps and swivels will only last so long, whether they are connected to wire or floro, they won't last forever. It only cost me about a $1.50 to make a leader, even a cheap floro can't match that for ecconomy. Besides, I'm old and It's tough to start over when you have something that works. lol JMHO

Ace, I have had fish totaly destroy a wire leader, also destroyed plenty just casting fom fouled baits, no problems yet with the flouro besides not using it for the low vis factor but due to the fact they last. They also work great on your waters when I'm up there. Flouro I have found brings new life to some baits.

I think you'd be surprised how tooth resistant heavy test flouro is. I caught about a 32" pike last year by the leader (it missed the bait, and clamped down with the leader through it's mouth. There wasn't a hook in the fish). There was a slight nick in the leader, but nothing even close to failure (>95% of cross sectional area was still in tact, therefore it was retaining 95% of it's break strength).

Leaders getting fouled by a bait is typically operator error most of the time, it really doesn't have much to do with which type leader you use. We could banter this back and forth until dooms day and I doubt either one will change their opinion. I'll keep using wire until something else comes along that I have more confidence in and right now, that just ain't happening with floro. Like I said call me old fashioned, but I like wire.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
