shamalex72
amount of time the a northern stared at your decoy? the other day I had one down there for a couple minutes, just staring at my sucker decoy, so I glanced at my watch. It was 9:52. I just let him be, to see how long he would stay. When he finally left, he bumped it in the head and swam away, it was 10:00. I wonder what he was thinking? Why is that sucker not trying to get away? Anyway, just another fun day in the spear house.
fishuhalik
I had about a 15lber several years ago stare at my sucker for what seemed like an hour, not sure exactly but i'm sure it was well over 15 minutes. I was just angling but it sat outside the hole and wouldn't come in no matter what i did.

white175
my father had one sit for 2hrs 45 min it came from under his chair but he could just see the tip of its nose,it was noon when it came and 2:45 he finally moved so he could throw, end up being 12 lbs
Huey
The live suckers reaction is fun to see too. I've seen sucker minnows hang motionless with a 30 lb muskie inches away, just eye'in it. Usually the minnow gets frisky before the fish appears, then goes "dead" when the fish is close. Just the oppsosite of what I would expect. tritonman
This might be a little off the topic but close... I was up on Leech last week and had a 2 pounder come in and grab my sucker decoy. I had it 9 feet down and couldn't get that thing to let go. I pulled it all the way up, grabbed it, and then it finally let my sucker go. I took it over to my buddy's house to show him and then threw it down his hole. Persistant little bugger!
Laska
Ive heard sooooo many stories about pike getting pulled out by the sucker!! I had one finally nab my sucker this year, all the other years they came in slow but this one little pike wanted my sucker a little more, almost got him pulled up and he let go... MJ1657
I grabbed one with my hand last year. It was barely bigger than my sucker.
bassNspear
i have had alot of fish sit there for a long time, but i guess i have never really thought about it to watch and see how long it is. I have had 8-10 lb fish in the hole looking at it, and have alot of smaller fish come in, look at it and leave, when the bigger fish never moves! Thats pretty cool! BOUNCED
I've had dinks that would stay for a really long time I've never watch the clock. I've also had to pry the decoy out of there mouths before after spearing them. I would imagine with a spear though their back they tense up a bit. Two weeks ago my buddy speared a 34" and it grabbed on to the back of my boot in the house and I had to pry him off?

Huey
"It wasn't a live one, it was wood." That's a good decoy. I was just at the bait shop getting some minnows for tomorrow. They had a live frog in the bait tank. Gave it to me for free. We'll see what the northerns think of it.
