I have both the Eskimo Quickfish 6 and Quickfish 3. The Q-6 has been up a few times with no problems. My Q-3 has been up and down over 100 times in the last couple seasons with no problem.

I think the quality is good on all I looked at with prices about the same for all makes. Fish on.

I'm also in the market for one of these hub style houses. I was thinking about the clam just because of the thermal canvas, but I'm interested in the Glen's. For those who have the Glen's, would the 6x6 model be big enough for a guy and two kids?

YES. I just got mine in the mail 3 days after ordering it (Glens). It can and will hold 3 people, however, room will be tight but should work out fine with two kids. I plan on using mine for mostlty one-two people but purchased it cause I "can" hold up to three...you can make it work!

Good deal, thanks for the reply. I'm hoping my buddy heater keeps it warm enough.

I went out last weekend in my Eskimo Quickfish 3 and during the day all I had heating it was my propane lantern. I was sitting in there with my snow pants and a sweatshirt ( I had taken off my jacket and hung that up ). When the sun was going down turned on my sunflower heater and had that at low and it was toasty.

"I've heard" that on windy days or really cool days that the buddy heater may not be enough for those 6 X 6's but I'm not sure what they mean...I'm guessing their saying it probably won't keep you warm enough to the point of taking off your coat and hat but should still be able to keep one comfortable I'd think???

Going out this wknd in mine but the temps may be up.

I just used my QF6 last night for the first time and loved it. Tons of room and it heated just fine (course it was warm). I think it doesn't matter what brand you buy, they are all the same with exception of the Clam which has a thermal model. I bought mine online from FF, only $244 with free shipping.

MNBassfisher, Did you order it from them or pick it up. Thats a good price for that hub. I'm thinking of ordering one.

ALL OTHERS, Ive contemplated getting one of these for a few years now. What worries are there, Im assuming zippers and stress points. Anything else to look for? FYI,I dont see the need for the insulated option important for my needs, never have.

I honestly see no down side to the hubs, set up is quick, blocks wind and roomy. Ive used a pull over for years and these seam so much easier all around.

I ordered it from them, they offered free shipping to a different forum's members (they are a sponsor on that forum). They're great, I had to use the anchors yesterday on the St. Croix for the first time and it was pretty easy! Much smoother than expected.

I used my basecamp with the wife the other day for the first time. It was great but it could have been a bit warmer for her(I used my regular buddy heater). I was fine in my snowsuit grin, but i'll bring the cooker next time for her.

I've been wanting one of these bigger ones...once they are tied down do they hold up in 20+ wind very well???

get some extra ice screws and attach p-cord to the loop handles on the sides. tie the p-cord to the ice screw. it will keep the side from caving in on you while your fishing. i have fished in 20+ wind many times with it rigged like this and have never had an issue.

Took my Glens out for 3rd time today and one of the roof posts snapped. Supposed to be covered. Will find out tommorrow. It has thicker poles than the clam/eskimo so i hope it was defective and not due to quality.

I set up my Quickfish 4 for the first time today and really liked it. I used my buddy heater and it stayed comfortable. I did not bank the sides at all which probably would have helped a little. The walls got a little damp but with the thermal barrier up there was not any dripping from the ceiling.

Without reading the previous 4 pages, I'm on my 3rd year with my QuickFish 3. Green with Sportsmans Wearhouse logo on it. (I miss those guys). Highly recommend although I"m sure the Clam version is fine too. Someone told me that if you ever have a problem with Eskimo QF products to call the MFC in Cumberland, WI and they'd take care of you. Ive not had the need but I'd like to hear from anyone that has.

I'm buying a rubber mat for my hub to use as flooring, does anyone see a problem if I secure it to the base brackets on the hubs (where the poles come together at the bottom) with velcro? I'm hoping this will help stabilize the shelter on wind days and eliminate banking snow on the skirt.

Talked to Glens today and new post is on the way. the post hit the vent mesh when it broke and put a little tear in it. Glens offered to send a new house. I just told them to send post. customer service is very good at glens so far.

where are you getting the rubber mat. i was just going to get indoor outdoor carpet but a rubber mat sounds like a better idea. i also think attaching it to the skirt with velcro would be a good idea.

You can find rubber horse mats at FF that are 4 x 6 and larger(I'm placing a sled inside the HUB as well that has seating like a flip style but also will contain lights and batteries. This will take up the other 2' so I have all 6 x 6 feet covered.) Instead of connecting the lights to the HUB which have to be taken down everytime, I figure I'll mount on the sled with retractable poles....we'll see if it works!

My Glen's 6' X 12' arrived yesterday. It only took 2 days to get here and the shipping was free. I set it up today in our warehouse and everyone that looked at it was impressed, including myself. It seems very heavy duty. I hope the broken pole issue that MNmuskie had was a fluke. Hopefully I can get out and try it this weekend. Its suppose to be a high of 6 degrees on Sat. so that might be a good test.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
