Trail Reports

Yup, probably my last ride today as well. Live in Brainerd and went through Crow Wing State park to the Fort then over to St. Mathias and back home. The ditches are ugly but the woods are unbelievably great just some ugly side roads that go through the townships that have extra "stuffy crust" to deal with the I would give the trails a 7 out of 10 for this time of year or a B- for a grade. If I wasn't leaving town tomorrow for a few days I would go one more time...lets hope for a late March or April snow storm!!!!

Heading out tomorrow in the Cloquet area for what will probably be the last ride of the year. The trails were groomed as late as last thursday, and at least the one by the house has had maybe 6 sleds on it in the last week. Was a good year, got really lucky and had some great trips with the family and some fun local riding during the week!

I was up on the state trail last weekend and the conditions were still excellent. Not sure why you say it is not worth still grooming. Great snow conditions and snowmobilers still using them. My brother in law and a group are up there snowmobiling right now as a matter of fact. Why not extend the season for those hotels/resorts and restaurants?

Now the gunflint trail system was a different story last weekend. Plenty of snow to groom but it hadn't been groomed in a long time and it was terribly rough. Talked to some local bar/restaurant owners very unhappy with what has been happening with that local club and they reported a shake up happening right now and that they are in the process of getting the groomer out of the control of the old leaderships hands. That won't help till next year though. Too bad these business owner's seasons were cut short by lack of grooming on that trail when like I said, there was still plenty of snow to groom at the end of March. I realize this trail is different than the state trail in terms of funding, dates of use etc. so not looking to compare completely...
