Didn’t take long a couple friends and I have been fishing long lake (buy Willmar) the ice got to be 8"-9" so my two buddies moved out there lighter wheel houses. I was going two move mine out Friday but I think I will wait now because they went out last night only to find their houses broke into and fishing equipment gone and there heater's ripped right of the walls. It looks like him or they were on a snowmobile. I think it's time to keep an eye on what’s going on around you when you are out on the lake even if you don't know who is in the house next to you keep an eye open.

That's why I leave nothing inside my fish house, and leave it unlocked. NEVER leave anything inside a fish house if you plan on keeping it...

Locks only keep the honest people out anyways.

Although, my buddy and I had some random old man fishing inside our house one time. We were like "umm, leave?"...haha

same thing happened to mine a 2 yrs ago, the shot out the window with a 22 and got inside and took both batterys and a empty propane tank, left all the booze and a 200 dollar pair of binoculars. called the sheriff and they said not much they could do and they would call me if my stuff turned up. they said that they were pretty sure it was someone who lives on the lake, never heard anything from there.

i have also learned to not leave anything and do not cover the windows.

My wheel house stays in my driveway unless I'm in it fishing. Too many people unemployed and some because "Crime doesn't pay, but it's good work if ya can get it.". I have friends that leave them locked up on the ice with no problems because we have very few problems with thieves around here. I'm not that trusting.

Yup leave it empty and unlocked, the only problem then is when the idiots use it as an outhouse.

I hope they get caught. Hang em high.

Bait em just like animals, put some new stuff out there then turn off all the lights and wait em out, they will come back. Theives on the lakes are usually teenage kids out blowing off steam, they are usually dumb enough to try the same shack twice.

Just don't get your self in trouble.

Yup....Thieves suck!

It appears Sportsman need to look out after each other, and deal with this problem on there own. And...that is enough said on that issue.

It appears all we ever hear when such incidents are reported is..."Sorry buddy, really can't do much for you".

If you're anything like the idiots that stole my fish house 2 years ago. Do the following:

1. Steal Fishhouse

2. Go to Fleet Farm and purchase paint with your debit card

3. Get scared and abandon fishhouse, not before completely trashing it.

4. Leave receipt from Fleet Farm in the Fish house

5. Get busted for being an [PoorWordUsage].

6. Pay restitution.

Those 4 kids were scared little bishes when they got caught.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
