Batteries

Recommended Posts

Idk there is only a couple true manufacturers of batteries out there currently. The ones made by east Penn are pretty good and have a good warranty %. Carquest, batteries plus, oreilly, and fleet farm (there are more places too) carry that brand. They are decent for the money.

That being said I am running optimas in my vehicles and love them but they are spendy. I got sick of dealing with acid leaks and they are never going to have that problem.

Most batteries in the US are manufactured by Johnson Controls. They are the largest producer of lead acid batteries in North America, and manufacture many brands including Interstate, DieHard DuraLast, Kirkland, EverStart and ProStart. They are also the parent company of Varta and Optima Batteries. In addition they also supply Ford Motor company, Diamler Chrysler, Acura, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Isuzu with original equipment batteries.

We always have a core bin full of everstart and batteries plus batteries. They may be manufactured by the same company but they are definitely not equal in quality.

My trolling motor battery is a fleet farm brand. Best battery I have had so far.

Always been satisfied with Interstate's. But ya know, I always thought Optima's were such hot stuff but I have, over the past couple years, picked up several negative reports about them being terribly over-rated for the price.

Have used Interstates in a variety of equipment and never had one fail. But, like any others, they will if abused.

I didn't mean to sound like they were all the same, just putting out a bit of info I found out from a buddy buddy that used to work there. True, they are made to different specs for the different individual labels, but many are made to very similar specifications.

I knew what you where saying. I just thought it was important to note that they are not the same quality.

I went the cheap route and tried the everstart deep cycle batteries. The first one lasted one year. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and purchased another. I didn't get a whole year out of that one.

On the other hand I just replaced the energizer battery in the wife's minivan. It was in there when we purchased the van over seven years ago. I can't complain about that one!

I've had a couple Exide batteries in my last few trucks and had never had a problem with them. I'm not sure the particular model Exide but its an AGM (gel cell) similar to Optima that is in my GMC Sierra now.

I now have 3 Interstates in the boat and my starting battery just took a dump on me this weekend, thats the oldest of the 3. I am going to be replacing it with an Optima blue top, there is no question about that.

I do agree that most batteries are made by the same company. But I also think they are all built to different standards. Some batteries are built for price and some are for quaility IMO. I really like the interstates as well. They just seem to really last.
