Agronomist_at_IA
Not sure how to make a poll on here. So the question is, who here has used the chubby darter to catch walleyes?I for one, had a blue glow chubby that I used up at Waubay 2 years ago, couldn't keep the walleye off the thing. I've also used them and haven't caught anything, but I could say that about every lure. Also, I'd like to make a shout out to Ed Carlson For hooking me up with the Blue Glow Chubby darter. I never tried the Lindy Darter, and didn't use one last year. Felt Like the chubby would be mad at me for cheating. So, I was permiscuous this year and picked up a Lindy Darter. Will
I have had good luck in the early season with them. During the crappie "boom" on upper red, i used to catch crappies on small rattle traps " before chubbies came out ". I really like the small perch one. Vallejo
I have not used them for walleyes. I use the smallest chubby darter in perch and it is the first lure down the hole when I am crappie fishing. I use it the catch most active fish right away and then I change to more finesse lures to entice the ones that are more finicky. Some days I catch two - four crappies with the chubby and some days zero. I have caught pike, bass, and white bass with them.
Gordie
Have yet to catch a eye on them but I have pulled a few crappies thru the hole with them and pulled Lowrance GPS out of 27fow with one

Gordie
pep threw my coat up on the bunk and heard the dreaded plop and thought it was my phone and then realized it was my GPS you could see it and it was on. It was at night and I swear I could see the man overboard sysmbol the next morning I fished it out..with a cubby darter and a camera. I called lowrance to see if it was covered cause it said water proof but their water proof test is 3 fow for 3 min so they told me that no it wasnt but if I would send it in they would replace it for 150 bucks well Its a 400 dollar unit and I didnt have an extra 150 laying around. The guy told me to dry it out then try it.. just dont put it in the microwave. I laughed he said you wouldnt belive how many people do that he said he knew of three personally. Well I put mine above the wood stove in the basement and forgot about it until spring stuck in batterys and it works great.
Jack Peterson
If you stick your waterlogged phone, ipod, or in your case a GPS, inside a food dehydrator for a couple hours, they'll come out as good as new.

The limited Edition LBD Salmo Chubby I did for Gander Mountain, is a hard critter to find, and ya...they do work well.If anyone has any Luminescent Blue Dace Salmo Chubby Darters (LBD) they wish to sell, I'll buy them all. Finlander
Tried a Lindy Darter a few weeks ago fishing for crappies and caught my biggest crappie just fishing over the side of the boat straight up and down. It was chrome/blue color.
MN BassFisher
I've never had much luck with my Salmo's or Lindy's. I think it's a confidence thing. They've seen a lot of water time over the years but I've never gotten a fish on either. I usually don't have them down for long until I switch them out though - I need to catch a fish on them to gain confidence in those lures and then I'll use them more! Agronomist_at_IA
Ed, Fleet Farm has them. Fleet farm more then likely does have them now since it was a few years ago when they came out. Good to know though
tip_upclyma
I fish almost exclusively with a Chubby Darter...LOVE IT! Glow Red #3 or #4. What I like about it is you can catch fish without baiting this lure...it is also great when you are scouting, because I can catch almost any species of fish with it. LOVE THE CHUB! Savage Brewer
Ed, Fleet Farm has them. For those of you who didnt know, Ed passed away in June of 2011. Fishing an area near the Red River (Fargo area) fell in and drowned.
CaptainMusky
Buddy got a 32" followed within minutes by a 27.5" walleye on LOW using a chubby. So yes, I think we all had a chubby after seeing that slob 32" come up the hole.
dirtymike
Man I didn't know this thread was that old. Sorry to hear about Ed. Ice fishing any river is dangerous. I don't think you'll ever see me on the red or the missouri unless its some backwater. I'll walk away with my foot in my mouth now.
Savage Brewer
Oh, dont worry, just letting people know, It threw me off for a second when reading the thread, knowing of his passing.I never had a chance to fish with him, but he still taught me quite alot about fishing the Red River and for Catfish.Too bad to see a guy like him go. The odd bit is he was fishing a smaller feeder creek that goes to the red. It was raining and from the best I can remember he slipped and fell in. They figure he was knocked unconscious. While fishing alone there isnt anyone there to call for help or pull you out.Fishing any water has a level of danger, but yes fishing moving water is a new experience. Which brings me to my rule: never ever fish a river alone. No need to put foot in mouth, those who didnt fish the Red River or chasin Cat's didnt know him.Back to the original topic though, those chubby darters are the bomb, I remember going into Gander in Fargo and talking to Ed and he told me you gotta give these a try. Well I can say the blue glow chubby he sold me on is the FIRST lure that someone actually talked up and had the lure deliver fish like the salesman claimed it would.
