under armour cold gear

Recommended Posts

I'm one of those guys without built in insulation and UA has solved that problem for me. I tend to waer 1 less layer with UA as a base layer and this time of year spending hours on the boat casting in near freezing temps it has been well worth the money I spent on it. I hate wearing coveralls in the winter and spend most days outside working just another plus for me. I'm 43 years old and currently on my 3rd set of coveralls in my life, anything that I can wear to keep them off is a plus for me.

I also wear the UA, sweat pants and unisulated rain gear for snowmobiling and stay toasty.

I hated the under armour! Worked great when I was pulling all the gear out to the ice, but once I sat down I proceeded to freeze my butt off on what was a nice winter day. So yeah, if your constantly moving around and building up a sweat I think it's great...as I wear it when I workout in the winter. But for ice fishig it sucks! I stick with the good ol' fashioned $5 a pair cotton longjohn's and have had absolutely NO problems! And stay roasty toasty smile

For those of you who do not like how the Under Armour Compression Fit fits so tight, try buying the new Under Armour EVO Cold Gear. It's more of a loose fitting material and the makeup of the material is almost "silky." Extremely comfortable and you hardly even realize you're wearing it. I guess I have honestly never had issues with getting cold as I think it's the warmest base layer out there.

It definitely took some getting used to, that compression wear. Had to try it once. Gulped at the price, bought it anyway, hated it the first couple of times I wore it because I found myself sucking in my gut all the time. Then I realized that was pretty stupid, and it's the very first piece of base layer that comes out of my drawer, whether I'm working outside, working hard at fishing outside, or just sitting on my sled in the cold jigging for lakers.

Not only does it wick like crazy, it's warmer than the four other styles of base layers I own. Count me one of those who believes a tight base layer wicks better than a loose one. For me, fleece is the absolute worst for wicking. Just doesn't seem to pull moisture away at all. I save fleece for mid layers for that reason. It is an excellent insulating layer.

No cotton clothing against my skin when I'm out in cold weather. Period.

Two thumbs up from me for the UA compression wear.

I'm also a huge UA fan. Personally, I won't do any winter outdoor activity without it on. Like others have said, it wicks like crazy. So long as you understand that the wicking is going to be it's main function, and you layer accordingly with some thermal wear, you'll be just fine. Definitely have never regretted buying UA. I have all sorts of it too for summer and winter.

Another big fan of UA Cold Gear. Every time I head out hunting in cold weather, hit the ice, or go out snowmobiling I have it on....and it works great. One layer of UA cold gear and then one insulating layer and that's all I need under an insulated coat.....even in the coldest of temps and just sitting all day. This can get a little too warm when sledding though.

I'm a believer in base layer systems. I have several sets I use and my personal favorite to date is the Smart Wool merino wool blend base layer. Soft and warm and not one bit of an itch to it. I don't feel like I wiggled into a sausage casing either in it.

Another similar product is the REDRAM base merino wool, also comfortable, dry, and warm. They also offer womens as well as a mens line.

I do like UA Cold Gear but I do a combo of what Ed says. I use the UA Cold gear shirt and a merino wool blend for the pant. Then a fleece pant and fleece shirt. Then cold snap gear. It has survived the -15 below naifc day. Also, stick a adhesive body warmer on your kidneys of the UA cold gear shirt if your outside as it will keep your core body temp up and you can last all day.

Ed, thanks for the heads up. I have quite a few SmartWool socks, but didn't know they made undies, too. I've got two pairs of wool blend Helly Hansen long bottoms that are the best I've worn. No itch whatsoever. Gotta give the SmartWools a try. smile

Yup... I love my Smart Wool socks too. If I had only one brand in my drawer, that would be it. Slowly that is what's happening too. There Cool Max socks are sweet socks for summer and wet weather use..another must have if your feet sweat. I often use the Cool Mas a a base sock under a med weight Smart Wool Hiking sock, never a blister or a slimy foot. They last too, hold up well, do not pill up and wear out as others do.

I'll add more of there under garments too. I watch for deals on the net. They cost a bit more but I see quality and value there to support the expense.

UA has to be one of the greatest things to hit the fishing/hunting community.. when its above 15F and sunny.. I will wear a long sleeve thermal... a t-shirt.. and my UA hoodie... everytime i've been on the stream this year i have worn nothing more than the UA hoodie for a jacket.. thing keeps you really warm.. i suggest laying down the $50-60 for one... it'll be the best light winter wear investments ever

I personally think UA is way too expensive and over rated. I wear wick away but only too keep dry and I am naturally warm like most of u it sounds. If it is really cold I put on a dark colored sweatshirt or hoodie with my columbia ski jacket. Never get cold, always dry and warm. If u dont care bout colors or logos, always check Dick's etc. lots of times they have name brand stuff from loser teams on clearance. Otherwise i worked at wallys & hater their athletic gear, would recommend jockey store in outlet mall. Wick away tees in many colors & sizes always $10!!..I have even called them in past & when they get a shipment in will hold a specific size/color for u if u like. They may also ship for free!! (have for me). But if u wear a lot, they will shrink, buy at least 1 or maybe 2 sizes larger, i always like my clothing looser that way.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
