1st open water, interesting story

So I went down to the river for the first time this year today. I went to a warm water discharge on the mississippi with a buddy to see if we could catch some carp. So after a fruitless 30 min, we switched to lures(legal on this stretch) and started casting. After a bit I accidentally snag this 6lb carp, nice little fight. My friend jokingly metioned that "you even snag better than me". Well that sure turned out true. A few casts later I scared a pigeon who flew into my line while my lure was in the water. It got the line wrapped somewhere, and as it flew away it slid my line through its feathers so my lure rose from the water, and eventually snagged the bird, as it does, it does a nose dive from 20 ft up into the river. I thought it was dead, but it was just stunned, so it started flopping around. I pulled it into shore and my friend and I start trying to unwrap it. I cut my line and unwrap it from its wings, which were pinned backwards, we then removed the hooks from its feathers. The whole time the birds mate is squawking at us, and when we released the unharmed but stunned bird they both flew away up the river. Still laughing about the most recent snag, I retie my lure, and toss it over the wall Im standing behind so I can pick up my rod to cast. As I pick up the rod I feel weight(the lure never went into the water) and I was confused, since I couldnt see my lure from behind the concrete wall, so I lift it over the wall, and here is a crappie hooked through the nose and back. All the lure had done was touch the surface and without any hookset or action by me it had hooked itself, I have no idea how. I released the fish, still laughing and decided it was time then and there to quit before I snagged one of us or something worse. Interesting first open water fishing experience.

See, now I was reading this story and I was trying to guess what was coming , and I thought it would have been better if the bird had fallen into the water and then got slurped up by a big northen, which you then managed to land, but your ending is pretty good too...

I lassoed a duck with a spinner bait once, but he shook it off right away. I like your story better.
