October full mooon walleyes?

With the full moon this coming Friday, who is gonna be out for a last chance at hog walleye?

I've never fished the full moon period this late, but am thinking about heading out to a lake that I have success on during the full moon periods during the summer.

Will my same hot spots produce this time of year as they do throughout the summer months?

I typically fish the weedlines 9-13' of water, trolling Salmo Hornets or Shad Raps.

Thanks,

Brian

i'll be out all week, maybe I'll start pulling some raps in shallower water after dark. who knows. I fish nearly everday, and have been catching fish in 20-30 feet pretty consistently. Big shiners have been working pretty good, along with fat heads. I would think that the full moon will help out on my local lake this week, because the walleyes usually pick up around full moon.

if your weedlines are still intact, they might still be kicking out fish, but would think they would be shallower than that(2 to 7 ft on up on points or current/ creek feeder areas); however if you fished with me this fall, you would not have caught many big fish. been fishing off memories, and each time just smaller fish, dont know where the big girls are this year!!!

I'd start an hour before dark and stay out as late as I could, depending on if the fish were biting or not.

I fish SHALLOW in the fall, 3-6 feet is where I like to troll. Inside weedlines are great if you have them. A mix of weeds and rocks is great too.

As the water temps cool down, stick baits like HJs and Rogues are likely to do better than high-action shad baits like Hornets and Shad Raps. Water temp dictates which baits to use, but below 55 or so I'd lean to the stick baits first.

Good luck out there!

How fast would you troll those husky jerk-baits in 3-6 feet of water? How much line would you typically have out? I have never really trolled that shallow, I will usually just cast stick baits and move from spot to spot but I would like to try trolling these shallow areas.

I will be out with my brother in law this coming weekend. Only thing better than trolling an October full moon is a September full moon in my book. Just as much fun, but a lot colder usually. Looks like we have clear skies too, so we should be good to go.

We'll be hitting 11th Crow Wing Saturday pm and maybe try 8th Crow Wing on Friday night. With the lower clarity on 8th, we'll probably go a little shallower than 11th. If anyone has tips for 8th, I can provide some for 11th. Let me know and we can email.

Probably Deep Reef Runners & Deep Husky 12's up until sunset. Switching to Shad Rap 5's, F-13's, & Husky Jerk 10's/14's as night progresses.

I'd try trolling in the 1.8 to 2.0 or even 2.2 range, and adjust from there. More likely going slower will be better than going faster.

Line out will be anywhere from 75 feet to 125 feet, depending on your line and your bait and the water depth and if there's weeds or not. Sometimes ticking the bottom or the weeds is good, sometimes you want to be above them.

I had my camera down on my lake yesterday and the walleyes were right next to the weeds on the rocks, in 23-27 feet of water. I was catching them in 25-27 feet, lindy rigging with Silver Siners. I would think that this style of bite would continue for a while, but on the full moon I'm going to troll some cranks around after dark.

Uf. All of my shore spots were really not in the greatest of shapes to be fishing from. Lost more lures/hardware/jigs than I've lost in any outing... put the bill at 2 shad raps (no 5 and 7), 1 oz daredevl 5 o Diamond spoon, 1 leader, 1 original floater no 7, 1 pro thill float, and oh.. we'll throw my pride in there for good measure.

Even better I re-aggravated an old ultimate frisbee injury in my rt hand and now have to go to see a hand surgeon to determine the best course of action. Yes, I aggravated it on a snag, because I was so annoyed by that time I just yanked as hard as i could. oops. Big old dummy right here.

I had fun though. haha. The full moon really makes the scenery mystical. Crawled over a dead tree that was fallen up a hill, full moon was over the top of the dead branches and the white light was gleaming off of the trunk. And later... I was on the only dock left in WBL on a certain portion of the lake... holy cow, I've never felt so alone on WBL in my life. Thought for a moment I was up north on a new lake. It's depressing though, how far down the lake is now...

I can chalk up a 20, 19, 16, and a few 10-15" due to the moon phase though. All of em caught the days leading up to the 22nd, and all but 1 released (sorry... if you're a 19 inch walleye and your cheeks are big nuff, you're gettin an almond crusted oil bath). Unfortunately due to the whole hand thing, and the state my equipment was (still is) in, I did not have a chance to hit up the little canoe launch on bald eagle as I had hoped.
