bow huntersseeing more-the same-or less. Is the season type

Recommended Posts

deer than last year. seeing more deer sign or less? Been hunting the Brainerd area and am seeing a few less than last year. Observing very little sign I am seeing bucks this week starting to make scrapes. any comments you have on abundance or lack of deer? Did the DNR to right in your area by the type of season they set up?

I can kill five deer in my area (180) this year. There are a lot of does and fawns running around the big woods north of Two Harbors. I've seen a couple of very nice mature bucks after dark in the last two weeks, as well as some rubs and one scrape. Things should really ramp up in a couple of weeks.

As to whether the DNR made a good decision allowing a five-deer limit, I don't know. I do know that the string of mild winters has kept the population high and the wolves have followed suit. I was awakened several times this summer by wolves howling within a half mile of my house. They sounded pretty happy.

laker1,

I hunt the same area and have seen little to no buck sign, this has to be the least amount that I have ever seen in the 5+ years that I've bow hunted. I've got cameras that don't have any bone but the does seem to be every where. Just hope they start to show soon as I it looks like right anything with a "point" might get shot at, not good.

I bought new land two years ago, and last year was horrible for hunting so I really cannot compare. I have seen lots of deer all around. I have only seen a few bucks, and that is only on trail cameras. Based on the trail cameras I have a 9 to 1 doe to buck ratio this year.

We only took two bucks last year, and one was a spike. So, I can see why they have bonus tags in my area.

I think it is too early to be pessimistic. I have noticed lots of pattern changes last weekend. You will start seeing them moving real soon.

Also hunt the same area and deer sighting are down slightly, little to no buck sign around either, heck I haven't even seen a buck this year.

Where I hunt (601), I have seen WAY less. By this time last year I had seen 70+ deer (some same I'm sure). At the beginning of the season I spent about 8-10 days out in the stand (2-3 hours each), and only saw about 4 deer. I took one on opening morning, but since those first 10 days, I've pretty much given up for a while. Concentrating on the birds for now, might go back to the deer later.

Ive put in close to 75 hours on stand this year around solway. it was slow when it was hot but ive been seeing 4-5 a night now that its cooled down. I only hunt back in the woods and swamps for the big boys otherwise I could be seeing 15-20 in the fields every night. Compared to last year I dont know because I was in ND
