Deer wanted

Hey guys, a buddy of mine really wants a deer this year but won't be able to get out in the field. I was wondering if anyone on here loves to hunt but doesn't care for the meat? He's willing to meet you anywhere in the metro, and obviously he'll do all the processing and what-not. Also, is there any kind of legalities involved with something like this? I would imagine as long as it's tagged by someone, that person has the right to do whatever they want with it, as long it's used?

A hunter who doesn't care for the meat????? They'd better if their going to shot that animal!

Sorry to hear about your friend and not being able to make it out. Try contacting the local sheriff's department and get on the waiting list for a road kill...YES- some counties have waiting lists. And NO it's not gross-I've had the pleasure of my ol' man collecting a few while growing up with a house full of kids!

“Lawfully taken wild animals may be transferred as a gift if accompanied by a receipt [chicken scratched notes work too.} containing: name and address of the owner; name and address of the recipient, date of transfer, description of the gift (for example: ‘Three 1-pound venison steaks’) and the license number under which the animal was taken. The receipt must remain with the gift.” If you have further questions about donating venison to an individual, you should contact the DNR

you can't transfer a tag for possession I think.

Why is that a law? I deer hunt but I don't much care for the meat. Ill eat it but not alot of it. I just enjoy the hunt. I've given deer away to people before, mostly family, but ill keep you in mind if I can't find anyone else to take it. post on here if he gets one so we know.

You cannot transfer a license, but once the deer has been tagged and registered you can transfer possession and there is a place on the tag for changing possession of the animal. I've done this many times. It typically comes into play when taking multiple deer on bonus tags. I do management hunts and the goal is to take as many deer as legally possible.

I guess I'm the same way. Growing up we ate alot of venison. Alot. We didn't have much so wild game was a staple. Everything from duck, goose, venison, to a variety of fish... I'm 35 and have been hunting since I was 12. I've been fortunate enough to harvest many deer during my 23 years of hunting. Now my approach is more of a sit and wait for a trophy type hunt. I don't really love venison, but I do love the thrill, preperation, and execution of the hunt.

I give away about 80% of my deer I shoot. I get some sausage, burger, and summer sausage. I eat the straps, give away several steaks and than the rest stays in my freezer and comes with me on hunting trips. I basically donate to all the owners of the land. They don't hunt but like eating the game. Couple rings of sausage and some summer sausage and a fresh pheasant keeps them happy for the year!

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
