Global-finder homepage BS !

Does anyone know how to block the Global-finder HSOforum from becoming my homepage? I've always used the Fishing Minnesota site as a homepage but lately it switched all by itself. I can go in to Tools/Options and change it back to FM but the next re-start it will always change back. I'm so mad I could puke.

I've checked for a .exe file to delete but can't find one. Thanks in advance,

Click on tools
Click internet options
select use default or use blank(nothing)
Click OK

1st go to add remove programs and see if ther is anything in there look for anything suspicious and remove it. Xupiter is one of the many that install itself when surfing, the list is rather long, but just look for things you didn't install or use. Next make sure that there is not anything you don't want in your startup folder under programs. Some of these things startup in your registry, but if you don't know what you are doing you can mess things up quite a bit.

Last do a google search for a little program called ad-aware, it goes through and removes all those dang gremlins that some websites put on your machine while surfing the web. If you have quite a bit of those little ad programs running you will see a performance increase after running this app. It is a great little program and we use it at work so it is safe to use. It is free in it's basic form, which is what I use.

I second that, download AD-AWARE 6 and get all them data miners and tags out of your computer system. It is a free download and keeps your pipes clean.

I had a sneaky bugger tag that did the same to me, changed my home page and search engine. With the Ad-Aware 6 I busted them all and zapped them into cyber dust.

Hey Upnorth and Eddy, thanks for the tip on the AD-Ware. It worked like a charm. Believe it or not I already had it but didn't even think of running it again in this case. It found and removed 31 seperate tags, data miners and such.

I can also recommend a great little free program called Pop-up stopper. It completely eliminates all those Ad windows jumping up on the screen. Thanks again.

When one finally gets sick of all the WINDOWS dump out there, switch to a Mac. You will never regret it. They are never affected by all that stuff that kills WIN. I work for a large school district and last week ALL, and I repeat ALL, of our servers and WIN machines were infected with various stuff.

I'm not trying to slam WIN but a fact is a fact. Bill has made some huge gains but when it comes down to it he will always be playing catch up.

If only Apple would have used Open Source we would all be using the Mac. Bill was a smart guy!

I have Norton Anti virus is that ok. Can I download this other deal and not mess up my Norton?

Northlander you can download Ad-Aware or spybot and it will not affect your Norton Anti-Virus. It will compliment it very well.

MNUser, the reason that Mac doesn't get attacked like Windows is that the folks that write these viruses and worms don't want to bother with small quantities of machines. They want their works to hit as many PCs and servers as possible, and get press, if a virus attacked a Macs it would hardly make a difference, it would not bring the business world to it's knees, it would affect a handful on home users and a few school districts, not the kind of things that makes national news

My point exactly. So why buy WIN when you can buy Mac and rest assured your computer will never be attacked. Years and years of fun filled use and never a bump in the road.

They don't write viruses for Macs 'cause it just ain't sporting. When a guy is infected with OS 10, it's kinda redundant to stick him with a virus besides. When I was using a Mac, I wouldn't even have noticed a virus. I would have written off whatever psychotic behavior I was getting to the normal eccentricities of trying to work on a Mac.

Long-time PC user here.......but Mac's are superior machines....always been faster than PC's.

The only thing I have against Macs, really, is the holier-than-thou elitist attitude that Macintosh zealots invariably display. They are immune to logic and fact, and thoroughly convinced of the moral superiority of their chosen machine. Same attitude you see in PETA-philes.
Personally, I have used a Mac quite a bit and didn't like it. PCs are nowhere near perfect, either, but they work better for me. Anybody who likes Macs better, good for you; I'm glad they do what you need them to. Just don't get in my face about what a great and powerful computer it is.

My idea of "Sporting" for them Computer Virus Dripdicks is to give them a 600 yard head start.....before I load my 280.

Then we can see how their Virus Software holds up to my Browning Anti-Virus Hardware.

That's more than Sporting in my book...Eh!

In my work I have support both Windows/Intel and Macintosh/Apple computers.

The only people have wanted to use Macintosh/Apple are people who need to because the application needed to do their work was not available in a Windows platform. Usually something like Pagemaker or garment design software. Even school districts are moving away from them dang things.

The Windows machine are much easier to support/keep running. The fixes are much easier when they break, easier to get parts for when hardware messes up. And the biggest thing is there is far and away more business applications for Windows than Macitosh. Does that tell you anything? There are very few Macs out there in comparison to Windows based machines. Why you may be asking? Because they are better working machines, period!

DISAGREE!!! Look, lets not get too feisty about this topic. Two very different machines and two very different platforms. Neither one is king of the hill. I prefer Macs. Why, because for what I do with computers, I need them. If I had to plow through fifty billion speadsheets a day then no, give me a windows machine. But, I deal with digital media. I'm sorry but you cant throw a windows machine at me that'll handle that stuff without me rippin my hair out. My .02.

PS...I mostly use my windows machine but you can't beat my Mac for working with digital images.
