Noisy Shutter

I was at retriever FT a few weeks ago and was standing next to a guy that was shooting a Nikkon ( don't know the model) I was using my Cannon 50D. My shutter seemed to be much more noticable than his. I have never though of mine as being noisy befor this.

Several of the Canon shutters seem noisy to me as well. The 20D was well known to slap loudly. I'm not very familiar with Nikon, but I do know it varies widely between Canon models. For example, when I was shooting an XT as backup a few years back, it was a very quiet "snick" compared with the 30D, and I think that has tended to hold true to the entry level DSLR bodies compared with the mid-range and pro bodies.

Just a guess.

With the two bodies I'm shooting now, the 1D3 is about what I'd call medium loud. The 5D is quieter, but has a distinct "clunking" sound that seems unique to that body. Every 5D I've shot sounds that way.

Yep, the 5D sure goes "CLUNK", but what great photos! Every model has a sound of it's own.

Could have been using quite shutter mode. Several Nikons have that feature now.

Not quite as silent as a mirror-less camera though.
