I went and completed my shopping today. I picked up a case of ammo - mixed (Federal High Density, Winchester Extended Range, Hevi Shot and Federal Black Cloud Snow Goose Loads). I also got some new batteries for the spinning wings and remote controls(for use in Manitoba)so I don't have to climb out of the blind to shut them off when geese are coming in.

Has anyone ever used a remote? How was the range?

Converted a boat just for putting out lines.

Bought a kayak for my next project going to do something like Don did for the Bonneville layouts with birds resting all over it so I can sit out on the thin pencil reed point. Not sure yet what either swans or honkers resting on it. If I hunted ND I would definetly do some snow geese for it. Well see I have time yet for that.

Flocked about 6dz decoys.

Hey Elwood we should hook up later this season and giove my decoys and your boat a whirl.....

RRR not even sure where I'm going yet I was thinking of the Bowstring area

Mutha I will defffinatly have to make that work.I also found a small aluinum boat and would like to make one like you did as a rice or pencil reed boat

As for spending that kind of money All I can say is its all about a passion that I have and there are ducks in Minnesota just have to work a bit to get them grin

I had a bit of accident at work last night so I will not be working on the boat today/ well maybe I do want to get some pics up thou.

Speaking of kayaks. Anybody ever hunted out of one ? How are they to shoot out of ? I have been thinking it would be nice to add one to the arsenal because of their lightweight and portability. For some reason I can see myself firing a shot to my side and the thing rolling over ! I would like to see a picture of this Bonneville reed boat. Is it on here anywhere ? Thanks

fwiw I hunted out of a recreational kayak for early goose, in moving water, and didn't have a problem. even under power, crossing current, shooting upriver. then again, i've spent an awful lot of time in a yak or canoe. i would think out of one designed for hunting you would have no problem at all if we did ok in these!

Goblue

Thats my new boat Bought a 12'green fishing model pelican.. Its awesome. I have a video of working my little lab off it in open water. Built shallow water stabilizers for it out of simple straps and conduit. They are SOOOOOOOO light its inreal...

Ill get a couple pics up soon. Being a old fat guy getting out is my only problem LOL.

My plans are to carve either swans or geese roosting on it for the thin pencil reeds. Till then I have a couple cases of raffia to cover it for my trip to LQP/bigstone.

Mutha -

My brother and I have a couple Carsten Puddlers and the raffia works great. I know from pix you[ve posted of boats and blocks that your attention to detail is second to none so I can't wait to see the finished product. FWFW - I bought a bunch of bungee chord in lengths of 10-20 feet and strung it all over teh boat and we zip tied the raffia to it. and we're very happy. Also, after about 4-5 years of using it the raffia has held up nicely.

Can you elaborate a bit on the stabilizers you mentioned. While our puddlers are very stable, it would be nice to at least consider something like that.

thanks - erik

The stabalizers are just slip clevis on nylon strap around the boat with a post in the rod holder.... Aint real happy with them.. I have a pelican fisherman so I use the rod holder pivot for the lock or anchor.. Ill get pics posted when I get it solid...
