early this year we were looking for a new tent also. we seen the timberline and it could be a good tent but we decided on the wenzel cedar lake. i'm 6ft tall and have no problem walking around it. it's 14 by 14. its just two of us but the grandkids always seem to want to sleep with us. i sprayed all the seems from the inside with waterproof spray and never had a problem when it rained. good luck.

I have one. It's inexpensive, fairly sturdy and pretty easy to assemble. I did have to replace a pole since the end of one kinked and broke but other than that I've not had any trouble with it. I will say that it's not the greatest for handling wet snow like you might experience in the fall. But if your main use is summertime, it's great for that.

I've been looking at a few tents and I think I want to get a Eureka Timberline. Do any of you guys know anything about them?

It's a proven tent and tent design that's been around for over 30 years. It's also been the BWCA outfitters tent of choice for their customers during that timeframe. I've slept in both the 2 and 4 man, but have never owned one.

For the money, you generally can't go wrong with an Eureka tent. And the Timberline has been a staple in the outdoors for quite some time.

thanks for mentioning that zipper. zippers were the reason i got rid of past tents. that and tents beig rainproof. i dont know if they make a tent that is rainproof. the one i just bought as stated in the above post recommended to spray a waterproofing on the seems from the inside. so far no rain inside. good luck.

My experience is that with enough cold wet weather, there is no such thing as a tent that is completely dry over an extended period of time. It takes some heat to dry everything out in those conditions. But the Timberline comes with a fly and a vinyl floor, so it's probably about as weatherproof as any tent out there. And you are getting a lot for the money. The only other nylon tent I know of that comes with #10 zippers is the Canadian made Chinook, and they're not readily available on the U.S. market.

i have camped in all types of weather including winter in tents and hollowed out snow caves in my younger years. you are absolutly correct with the moisture issue. one thing some people forget to do is to have an extra plastic tarp to put under your tent. it will make a big difference regardless of the tent you have. it will keep your floor dryer. dont depend on your tent alone. good luck.

The Timberline 4 with the heavier zipper is a favorite with the scout troops in our area. As mentioned before, a good ground cloth is a plus. It saves the floor in tent. Also, with the right conditions there will be mosture in the tent (humid out, your breath). It will not dry you out, but will keep you dry if you treat the tent properly. If it is going to be wet out pack clothing in a zip lock bag. At least the layer next to your skin. This will make it much more bearable.

I have a Eureka Timberline 6 and so does my buddy, I sold him on it when he was looking at tents, here is why we have them:

1. My father's was 22 years old with minimal maintenance to it (dry it out before stuffing it away in shed) when it first started to finally leak. It made it to 25 years before it leaked too much to use.

2. The one I bought 3 years ago is the same design as my father's was 25 years ago except they added a door and low vents.

3. It's 4 season, we camp late into Fall and early in Spring in it. We have also used one of them in winter.

4. How I sold my buddy: "you can stand up in it. Think about this when your wife is with and it's a bit colder out in the morning, much easier to get dressed quickly into warmer clothes if you can stand up"

I've never had a water issue on mine to date, 3 weeks ago we had a very small amount of water seep through the door on my buddies on a weekend trip. We had a constant rain overnight though followed in the morning by a driving sideways HEAVY rain directly into one of the doors. After about a half hour of this type of rain we had a small amount seep in, soaked it up with a T-shirt and was all set.

I love mine cause it fits my needs, easy to set up and is dependable. It may not be the tent for everyone but it works very well for us.

Good choice if you don't need to stand up in your tent. That is why I like the Sunrise series. Plus nice awnings over the windows to allow them to be open even during the rain.

You can stand in a Timberline Outfitter 6 tent as it's center height is 6'3" (or at least I can). Also the windows on the Timberline has the rain fly awnings also. Sunrise series looks like a great tent also, only reason I wouldn't get it is simply 3 seasons vs the 4 seasons of the Timberline. I like the capabilities to zip it up tight in late Fall and early Spring when it dips into the teens outside. Also although we don't go every year winter camping in a tent can be fun... but to each their own as your needs and my needs can be different. Nice thing is Eureka makes tents to fit all of us and all are of the same good quality in my opinion.
