Plover and Stilt.

Today ShawnZ took me to his super secret shorebird spots and we had a great time stalking birds and belly crawling through mudflats. Thanks for the outing Shawn!

I have a few hundred more pictures to go through yet..... eek

LOVE the behavior captured in #1! I still don't have anything half that good for this species exhibiting that behavior. Now just imagine what that would look like from overhead. From this angle, and what a great low angle it is! (I just wish we could see the feet smile it is easy to see the plover, but I'll bet if you were a falcon flying over you could easily overlook this bird, as it's position nearly alleviates any shadow and it's plumage blends in very well with the sand. And.....we did see at least one meregrine or was it a perlin.... smile Anyway, we did see one falcon buzzing the shorebirds at the point, so while it's fun for us nature nuts to watch these guys, it's easy to forget the life and death thing always looming. Oh and great light and water color on the stilt sandpiper.

That was a great afternoon sir.

Now let's see some more!
