The boys did great! Cody was solid on most of his events and would have made the board on the Swim to Win if he had made his 2nd time on the 1st run! Today was Mac's day though: Mac was 3rd for the dock jump when we left with 22 feet. He was the leader for a while on the decoys-decoys-decoys with just over 15 seconds. He was the leader on the Swim To Win retrieve for the better part of the day with :58 seconds. A smaller black lab took the lead with :57 seconds. So we had to have him respond to that, which he did with :56 seconds. And then a springer came in and took the lead with :53 seconds at which point we decided to hang it up for the day. Oh well, there's always next year!

every time I mention my company I get reminded I'm not a sponsor of FM (hopefully budget will allow soon) , so it gets removed. My dad and I work the booth, we have matching logos on the hats and shirts, again, next door the the ammo company, and just kitty corner from Steve Carney and his nice boat. Its a firearm industry booth, not the pawn shop though.

Our yellow lab "Tallie" tried the "Swim to Win" event first thing last Saturday morning. jwhawkridge - your dog was already on the board with 0.58 seconds. Tallie went out strong when I sent her but she lost track of the duck and I called her in and sent her again. Her score was 2:02 covering the distance almost twice. The rest of the day I was wondering what her score would have been if she would have made a good mark and clean retrieve the first time I sent her. We went back later in the day and saw the springer take the lead with 0.53 seconds. It just didn't seem right having a springer leading a water event. I wanted to go as it had been a long day and standing in long lines for these events isn't a relaxing thing with "Tallie" as she gets pretty amped up and "whiney" watching the other dogs run before her. My wife wanted Tallie to try the Swim to Win one more time and I told her sure as long as she stood in line and handled "Tallie". Well my wife took me up on that and after a long wait in line came to the line with me by her side. She sent Tallie who this time made a good mark on the duck. When I realized Tallie was having a good run I began cheering Tallie on but my wife turned around and "shushed" me saying she was the one who stood in line this time and she was handling the dog. I then stood by quietly while "Tallie" crossed the line at 0.52 seconds taking the lead. We stayed around the rest of the day and ended up winning the Swim To Win on Saturday. We received our 40 pound bag of Eukanuba and 2 free passes to run in the finals this Sunday afternoon which we are going to try come down and attend.

Tallie also did good on the decoys-decoys-decoys with 16.4 seconds and OK on the other events. She only reaches out 15 feet on the dock jumping though - I think she is too big to compete with smaller dogs on that.

Game Fair is a fun family event and gave Tallie her 15 minutes of fame!

Tallie ended up 2nd overall in the Swim to Win. 1st place went to a black lab from St. Louis Missouri

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
