jparrucci
Well, once again for some random reason, the MN DNR decided to go with a 2 wood duck limit instead of the 3 offered by the Mississippi flyway council, likely to be the only state again with 2 instead of 3. Also with the 4 mallards with 1 hen, when we could have had 6 with 2 hens. Hope those guys in LA enjoy all the ducks we provided nesting ground for, apparently we don't deserve them. Finlander
F.Y.I.,this is from a news release from the DNR:Duck SeasonThe regular waterfowl season will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, and continue through Tuesday, Nov. 30. The daily bag limit remains at six ducks, which may include no more than one hen mallard, one black duck, one canvasback, two pintail, two wood ducks, two redheads and two scaup. Possession limits remain at twice the daily bag limits.
jparrucci
The wood duck limit is the one that really angers me, especially since we are the only state in the flyway with a 2 bird limit, and we produce the most wood ducks of any state. Also not fond of the 9am start time, as the DNR survey from last year overwhelmingly showed hunters were for a earlier start time, and the DNR even stated there was no reason for the 9am start. Scott M
I don't know the answer for certain, but weren't some of the waterfowl changes shot down when the Omnibus bill was vetoed?
Farley
At least we can hunt over thanksgiving for another year. I dont get the 9 a.m. start either.
Cheetah
I don't see any reason to really be angry about it. You can shoot 3 geese now, so go get one of those and you'll have more meat than 3 wood ducks put together.
sheepheadslayer
The news release states one hen mallard. Does this indicate that you can shoot 5 green heads and one hen mallard. Kinda vague but thats the way it reads to me cuz they give no other limit on mallards in that statement.
Cheetah
Hmm, interesting they changed the wording on that regarding mallards. Would be a nice change since that is what usually passes through the area I hunt. I'll send the DNR an email and see what they say.
Gordie
looks to me that I'll be shooting 6 greenheads everytime I go out
Cheetah
No such luck, DNR replied to my email asking them to verify.Quote:We had a duck season news release go out yesterday that had an error. We didn’t correct it but will address it in a future news release and it will be correct in our waterfowl regs booklet when that’s available. It said overall duck bag limit is 6, no more than 1 hen mallard. It should have said overall duck bag limit is 6, with no more than 4 mallards (only 1 of which can be a hen).DNR Information Center500 Lafayette RdSt. Paul, MN 55155-4040651.296.6157 or1.888.646.6367[email protected]
Superduty
I don't like the 2 wood duck limit either. Not sure why MN has to lead the league every year in conservative duck laws. The DNR sells fewer licenses every year and wonders why. The dismal hunting recently obviously contributed to less license sales as well. Local wood ducks tend to make up the bulk of my early season bag. They are a blast in the bean fields.
icctolson
it doesnt matter anyway, all the wood ducks will be gone by october, and none of the northern birds will come down untill december
