jerkbait
I thought about this last night as I was looking at a box of little debbie pies for baiting. How many of you have ever snacked on some of the baits that you use. Kind of curious. I was sure temped, exspecialy when the expire date was 7/23/10, but figured I better save them for the bear . pulleye16
A group of four of us went to bait a stand or two and my dad and uncle stayed back. When we got back to the car they had made sandwiches out of old bear food....I swear half the food was gone!!!! We had gotten tons of food from a bakery that had a fire so all the food was to be destoryed (or given to us bear hunters). My uncle kept two pies for us to eat. Yeah, I'd say that waiver they make you sign gets broken all the time.P.S. Do little debbies have an expiration date??? And who could let them sit somewhere long enough without eating to where they would expire? LOL
jerkbait
yep, they expiration dates. These are cherry, apple, lemon and chocolate pies.
Boar
I support my BBQ buns for hamburgers an hot dogs with bear bait. A day or two out date dont hurt nothing. Cookies, pies ect. If its only a day old it gose in the freezer, some any way. Boar
cherokee
Maybe you should have asked, who has gotten sick from the bear bait food they have eaten. When you're out baiting, everything looks good.
jerkbait
I suppose that has happened also.I said to my wife that I could eat some of the cherry pies and she told me no. We are total opposites when it comes to sell by dates, she thinks the day after the stuff is done and I think with stuff like little debbies are good for a couple of weeks yet. It says sell by, not done by.
bogwalker
Why do you think I keep shooting these bait stealing bears!
lakeshoremunster
Yea I have to admit I diped into my bait last year, during the winter my friend brings me cookies and doughnuts everynight from the gas station, boy were they good, cookies still soft, but once they are in the freezer I dont touch them. cherokee
Well I got the 1/4 cow in the freezer today so a alot of my stuff had to go out. Stuffed 5 gallon buckets full, poured some grease on and topped with an pink icing frosting and sealed tight with a cover. My jack russell licked the frosting off my fingers. I was tempted but thought better. Smelled real good.
bogwalker
One guide I know says that he will not feed anything to the bears that he would not be willing to eat himself. If bait spoils in his cribs he removes it. He always has bears. Always 100% shot opportunity.
Boar
Cerokee, keep an eye on the buckett, I hope you left room for expansion, it will seep out. Boar
cherokee
So far so good. Thanks for the heads up. Two weeks to go. Picked up another great looking spot this weekend. It's about 1/4 mile away from a spot we baited in the past. The problem with that spot was the bears bedded close to our access trail and knew we were there or we spooked them in going in. This time it will be different.
CANOPY SAM
I really try not to eat bear bait. I'm a microbiologist, so I've got an idea of what's going on with this food. Although, I believe Little Debbie products, even without the wrapper, will survive the nuclear winter.
