james_walleye
My ultimate goal is to get that doe in the freezer ideally with the bow. If i get that my season is a success. As far as the buck im looking to take, if i get a 125-130" in front of me i'll let it fly. Last year was my most memorable season i've had. I had a morning where i passed up 9 different young bucks and topped the season off by shooting a doe with the bow while my 5 year old was with me. I didnt think he could sit still for more than 3 seconds but he did for over 5 minutes while that doe came to us.

Bear55
Hmmm seems like a lot of people hoping for deer in the 120 to 140 range, not quite the foaming at the mouth trophy hunters we are made out to be.
nonteepical
i think they are being realistic. the average buck we score at the deer classic is in the 120-140 range. i mentioned in a different post we had to lower the minimum score for the minnesota record book to 140" typical down from 150" otherwise it would have taken 10 years to have enough entries to print another book. Couldn't have said it better. Although MN has the potential, most people will never see that 150"+ deer. Personally, I want a doe or two for the freezer. I hunt the metro management hunts for that and occasionally get a yearling. Its part of the deal. I've never taken a legal buck so I would like to find something with antlers, but I won't shoot an immature buck to do it. I don't need points or inches to tell me a good deer. I passed on a 2.5yr 8 point two years ago and another 6 pt, because I knew they were younger still. Hopefully this year will be the year. Hoyt4
goal for a season is to have a safe season and to put a few deer in the freezer.Does or a buck they are all a trophy for me.You can see a 150 just driving around the metro scouting in the evenings.Just have to get out.Getting the permision is another story but there are people who still will let you hunt. You know I was thinking about this a little bit, over the past 10 years the whitetail population really boomed in MN and that allowed a lot more bucks to slip through the cracks and you maybe saw the results at the Deer Classic over those years. Now that the population has slipped back a little there are less of those bucks slipping through the cracks and getting to maturity. It just goes to show what a higher buck population can do, anyone else have a theory on this?
