zzammon
My Central Air has been on its last leg for years. I have been nursing it along up until now because I am cheap and don't want to drop the 2000 for a new one. Anyways, my wife has finally broken me down to get the new one, it's been a hot spring. I have it down to 2 estimates. My question is which of these two?2 estimates, within $150 of each other. Which to go with? Mankato area. Let's leave rebates out of it for simplicity. My home is about 1200sq ft up, 800 underground.Pranges - Goodman SSX14-024, 2 ton, 14 seer. 10 year parts, life compressor.Davis - Trane XB-13, 1 1/2 ton, 13 seer. 5 year parts, 5 year compressor.Which is best and which is best deal. Thank you for any input. I trust this forum.
jeffreyd
i have a goodman which replaced my trane. does a great job here in az, and if you register the goodman online after purchase they give you 5 more years on the warranty. are you just doing the condensor or the whole in house unit? Also check to see what the state and feds are offering for rebates if any along with your power company. might get a few bucks back.
Steve Foss
I was raised with Trane. My Dad was a draftsman for the company in LaCrosse, and his brother was in management. That was then, this is now.Buy the Goodman.
zzammon
Whole house unit. Should edit. Only AC, not furnace.
Steve Foss
Whole house unit. Only AC, not furnace. That was my understanding from your original post.
MNice
If your house sizes out for between a ton and a half and a two ton, go with the smaller, it'll do a better job of removing humidity. Oversizing AC is not a good idea. Check into a 1.5 ton goodman with that warranty.
Eric Wettschreck
I'm a Trane factory trained service dude. Got the little piece of paper and shirt patch to proove it. Where I work we have a LOT of Trane units, I fix them a lot and parts can be interesting to get and expensive.Get another estimate for a Goodman 1 1/2 ton unit. BoxMN
I do have Trane, and so far after about 5-6 years or so, all is good. But the warranty you have listed would push me towards the Goodman. I tink they did give us 10 year on ours when we got it, but possibly it was just 10 year labor and 5 year parts, I can't recall now, but it was a furnace/AC package deal. Good luck! zzammon
Thanks for all the input! I did go with the Goodman. The price was a little bit better and the warranty was way better. Hopefully it will be installed Friday, but Monday at the latest. Thanks again!
