Random guy
When you carry 45.70 you don't track bear. I have seen some big guns make very little blood.
Random guy
One thing to add to this thread is that we have tried some of the "blood lights" that are supposed to make blood glow in the dark. I wasn't impressed with them. They did make the maple leaves a pretty red color that looked like blood and I liked how when the dew came on it looked like a rave party wherever you shined them. pulleye16
We've always limited our guns (rifle / shotgun) when tracking bear. Usually we only carry in one and someone carries and pistol as well (holstered). I'd hate to see cross firing in a panic....but I hate being the one who carries the lantern! harvey lee
Only once have I wounded a bear and had to track it a good distance. I had a mediocre hit on the bear. I called my buddy and the dude that did the baiting for us that season. We had 4 going to track the bear within a half hour of the shot. Two had pistols and we all had flashlights. We found blood within 20 yards. We tracked this bear to the point where we had to crawl through some tunnels of brush and it was spooky. We went about 50 yards and we were in a cedar swamp. The guy that did our baiting said the bear was here as he showed us where it rolled in the tall graa to try and plug the arrow wound. A little farther, the same thing again. Then he said, I can smell the bear and I thought he was a huge BSer.Well, about another 30 yards we found the bear dead. We gutted the bear and had a bit of a drag. When we got back to camp it was almost 2am. Now we had to skin the bear and get it in the walk in cooler to save the meat.I would get on the tracking of the bear asap.I have shot 4 bear and the tracking of a wounded was a huge thrill. Man a guy can get pumped and to be honest, I was a bit scared looking for a wounded bear in the dark of night.
leech~~
I've hunted with the same guys Deer hunting for about 30 years. It is interesting how their eye's seemed so much wider as we went in to a swamp tracking a wounded bear.
