Road course will be more entertaining?

...and NASCAR wonders why its popularity has leveled off. The medium and big tracks create boring races, save for a few like Atlanta where they don't race with plates or the occasional Talladaga/Daytona race. The most exciting races are at the short tracks. The money comes from television, not butts in the seats. Once NASCAR realizes that, they'll concentrate on NASCAR's roots (short tracks) with the occasional big track - essentially the opposite of what they're doing now.

They're OK for me, but I still equate it to us walleye guys up here going down and guiding for marlin in teh Baja. It's still fishing but a very different kind, just like a road course.

Should be an interesting day. I predict 6 lead changes, Montoya will bust up his car driving it too hard, Ambrose will hang in the top 5 all day, Clint Bowyer will sneak into the top 5 and we will have a first time winner on a road course? Who? I have no idea. I can hear the crows circle for my feast already grin

Gordon was knocking everyone out of his way and Ambrose was foolish (according to the announcers) for trying to save fuel when he was well within his fuel window. It cost him the win. Oh well, good racing.

I also watched the nationwide race at Road America and that was even more exciting. It was a good road racing weekend for NASCAR.

Not to stir the pot to bad. But how much do you guys think JJ wrote a check to Ambrose after the race for? Pretty coincedence that Ambrose has that kind of issue which pretty much handed JJ his first road course win.

I don't think he wrote him a check but he might have bought him a Fosters grin I see it as a team that was prepping for a first win and looking ahead to all of the possible scenarios and they just plain outthought themselves and unfortunately the car died and wouldn't refire. Sad to see, but JJ and his team were in place to capitalize. How many times have you seen that play out in the past four years?

His car didn't die. He was selecting turning off the motor in order to coast and save fuel on the straight-aways. Then it wouldn't refire as he went up the hill and eventually came to a stop. The TV announcers were saying that by their calculations (which could be wrong) he had more than enough fuel even if there were three green/white checkered finishes. It sounds like Ambrose over-thought how to win the race instead of just racing it.

Okay, poor choice of wording in "car died." I realize he shut it down purposely. Big gaff on his part, but just like other sports sometimes the thing that gets in the way the most is between our ears grin
