as an existing customer, i've had bad luck. I got my first dish in '01. finally in 08 it went out. I wanted the advertised deal for the dual receiver/etc, but was told I wasn't elegible because I'm not a new customer. I had to tell them to cancel my service (which I intended to do) so i could swith to directv, then their tune changed. in 8 years I never had a problem, never called to complain, always paid my bill and they wouldn't even give me the same deal as everyone else. What "new" customers were getting for free, was going to cost me over $300...I THINK NOT!!!

I'd hold off any DishNetwork DVR's until the judge decides wether Dish has recall all of there DVR's due to their patent infringement case they lost with TIVO. Either way the customer is going to pay for the recall or the absorbent cost to pay Tivo for infringing on there TIVO patents.

I upgraded to HD as an existing customer, it costed $75 up front and an extra $10 a month on my bill. That was for one dual reciever, one TV in HD and the other was Standard Def.

I called and thats what they wanted to charge me, I got mine for free, after a little whining, although I do have the monthly charge.

Easy to do. Cancel the account in your name. Have you wife call say she is a new user. Worked for us with Direct TV.

Good luck with that. Dish is cracking down on this and are getting very serious when it comes to fraudulent accounts. Whoever sells you this service, or if anyone does, will be charged back the installation fees and the commission from the sale. When the account is processed, it will actually show up as a previous account at the previous address and either be declined or put on hold until some explaining is done.

As far as the Free HD for life promotion goes, you need to set up your account on Autopay and remain on autopay to continue receiving the promotion. Dish Network's goal is to get their customers on Autopay to avoid paperwork. I haven't had any of my current customers attempt to receive the current promotion, but as said before, the more complaining you do, the more they will bend over backwards for you. It is all on who you talk to. If you don't get your way, call back. I can almost guarantee your results will be different.

I highly, highly doubt that Dish will have to recall all of their DVR receivers based upon the recent court rulings. The matter is currently in appeals court and I would assume that there will be a settlement and an operating fee to be paid to TiVo if the appeal doesn't pan out.
