Hook advice

Recommended Posts

I am in the need for some new hooks. I have eagle claw 5/0 straight hooks but want some 8/0 or even some 10/0 hooks. Can someone give me a style that works for them? I had read something about Kahles but to me that hook looks kind of weak, maybe it was the style I was looking at I don't know. I want to make a order from the Catfish Connection but without actually having them right in front of me I don't want to just pull the trigger. Thanks for your help!

I’ve gone round and round and round on this and finally decided that there is only 1 hook that I trust and have had the most success with, and that is the Gamakatsu Octupus hooks 8, 9, or 10/0 size.

The Eagle Claw Kahles are also good hooks, and once those have set in the fish, they are there good.

ok thanks guys....I talked to my bait guy and he is going to get some in next week so than I can actually look at them for myself. Just a FYI I got a new personal best on a Gami 8/0 circle hook last night. I am downloading the pics now!

8/0 or bigger Gamakatsu will work. Hook size will depend on what kind of bait you are using. If you are using goldfish the 8/0 are good but if you use big bluegill you will need bigger.

Flip you guys down in missouri are lucky that you can use bluegills up here in minnesota we are only limited to rough fish (but no carp). the main flathead bait up here is bullheads. goldfish are also illegal to use in minnesota.
