Any reports on 2009 Chevy Silverado?

Recommended Posts

A neighbor recently bought a 2009 Chevy Silverado and I took a ride with him yesterday. His truck will drop 4-cylinders when it reaches cruise and then go back to 8-cylinders when more power needed. He has been getting 19-20 mpg with it. Was not aware GM making such an engine. You fella's hear any comments or complaints about this truck/engine? He seems happy with it. Sure seems like a nice truck-four door crew with little bitty six foot box.

They incorporated cylinder deactivation a few years ago, on a few of their engines, I believe. I am assuming he has the 5.3L.

Dodge has a version on the Hemi as well.

My truck is getting about 17 around town and around 19-20 over the road when I'm not hauling the boat and gear around. Nice feature with the 4/8 cylinder deactivation, seems to up the around town mileage quite a bit.

I bought an 08 Sierra 4WD extended with the 5.3 when the economy had bottomed out and big trucks were heavily discounted. The mpg figures you mentioned were the same that I get. The cylinder deactivation seems to work well--the mpg really shoots up when running in 4 cylinder mode. When pulling a trailer, the only time it runs in 4 cyl is downhill. However, I still get between 13.5/16 pulling a Yarcraft 1895, which is darn good. Around 65 mph, the mileage starts going down. Had 2 Tundras previously--excellent trucks but price and warranty made me switch. Going on two years, no problems.

I have an 07 Sierra SLT 4 WD Crew cab with the 5.3 with cylinder deactivation. Love the truck and the engine. 17 around town and 19-21 on the highway. Flawless so far. i would highly recommend the engine and the truck.

The recall is to fix/remove a windshield washer fluid heaters if the vehicle is equipped with them.

Thats actually a great idea- ex wife used to dump non-winter fluid in her minivan and come winter time it was like a popsicle.

plus you cant call it a "chevy" anymore. The news just reported that GM is requiring all dealers to stop using the term Chevy and go with the official Chevrolet term. a dodge is a dodge is a chrysler is a dodge.

Are you not paying attention. Remember the bail-outs? There might not BE a General Motors if you and I hadn't stepped up and loaned 'em a few billion. They are already paying us back, with interest. Maybe they'll get their [PoorWordUsage]aki's together and build us some nice vehicles again.

I'm glad we bailed 'em out. Didn't much like it-but glad we did.

I have paid very close attention to this.

If you look at the numbers they were given much more than they have paid back. Most of it never has to be paid back. They are paying back the loan portion with TARP money that was given top them. We will never get all of our money back. That is a fact.

I don't like giving my money to businesses that were poorly managed. They screwed up and came whining for a handout. If I run my business into the ground will they bail me out?

I hear ya Chucker and believe me, I understand just what you find onerous about this process-been in many businesses all my life. But all I could see was thousands of people at GM and TEN TIMES more in smaller support and parts companies sitting around the Christmas tree with nothing in the bank.

I didn't LIKE it anymore than you did. And I don't like SOME features of the health care changes either. But if I have to pay $5 a month more so that some other guy can take care of his sick kids I'll gladly pay it. I think you would too and I'll bet you agree with most of what I've said.

Thanks.

My friend has a 2010 Dodge Ram Crew 4x4 with the 5.7 HEMI and MDS (4 cyl. when cruising) rated @ 390 hp and 407 ft lb torque.

He gets 23 mpg @ 60 mph empty highway, 16.8 city.

Also does 0-60 in 5.8 seconds empty, and rides smooth as silk.

That's a hunky truck machine.

When he pulls his big boat, it doesn't feel like anything is behind us...power power power!

I saw Gm had a 6.2l rated @ 403 hp...what's that like?
