Goldeneye down the chimney

Recommended Posts

Why would a hen goldeneye fly down my chimney???

I found this very odd....maybe expect that from a woodie but not a diver.

Fortunately I was able to catch her with a net and release her unharmed. Not sure how long she was in the fireplace (less than 24 hours I know) but she kicked up ash all over the cabin.

I better get the screen and top back on the chimney asap!!!

You may think I am full of it but I was fishing in MT on the Big Horn and we saw numerouse Candian geese landing in trees. It was in the spring so it was that time of year. This was a long time ago, but do you think?

Here's a story my friend told me.

A few years ago my friend who is an avid waterfowl, big game hunter, has his mounts which include deer, bear, walleyes, snow and canada geese, wood ducks, buffleheads, you name it it's there in the basement.

Well on day he goes down stairs and notices something different about the wood duck mounted on a small log on top the table. It had a buddy. Somehow a hen woodduck came in thru the chimney and decided to sit next to the mounted drake wooduck.

Went and got his landing net to capture it and let it go.

This happened in Brookyln Park Mn.

He should of took a picture first! blush
