Stickjiggler
I am going to be putting pavers around my fire pit. I would like to do a circle. What can I use and where can I get them from? What did you guys do? All tips and ideas are greatly appreciated.
RussC
We've always had good luck using Borgert circle packs and they have an excellent variety of colors. Any major paver manufacturer should have circle packs though. Use the dealer locator on their websites to find a dealer and go down and talk to them and they should be able to set you up. Just shy away from Menards/Home Depot pavers, they won't last nearly as long as a quality paver.
sticknstring
You don't have to use a circle kit but I'm sure it would be easier. I don't have pictures but ours turned out great. I just watched C's list for awhile and bought a bunch of used pavers and did a herringbone pattern around a steel fire pit ring. Used a cement saw for all the cuts. I'll try and get some pictures up. Jameson
Get a circle pattern block set from a retailer. You shouldn't need to order the 'starter circle' or 'circle center pack' since your firepit will go in the middle.Timberwall Landscape and Masonry Products would be one place to purchase from. Though, hopefully something is available closer to you.
wormdunker
Where did you get the firepit steel ring?
311Hemi
I ended up using the square/rectangle pavers to do my whole patio including the circle area around the fire pit (I bought the fire pit kit at D-Rock). It took a lot of cutting with the wet saw, but I am very happy with how it turned out for my first time laying a patio. I used the rectangle pavers for the outside edge. sticknstring
I picked up my steel ring at a welding shop in Zimmerman. I went 40". Did a row of the bigger 8"x12" colored cement blocks around that, then the 4x8 paver patio around that. Similar to what hemi posted but with a steel ring in the middle as a heat sheild. The blocks still get hot and will crack over time if you burn a lot of oak.
echotrail
In todays Menards ad there is a paver "Circle Kit" that includes the items you need depending on how big you want the circle. Most landscape supply retailers will calculate the materials and costs if you tell them what size circle you want.
Steve Foss
I've been planning to build a brick fire ring/pit at the lake cabin in place of the dug out circle ringed with rocks, but I was planning on using firebrick and fireplace mortar. My thought was that, over time, they'd stand up better against cracking from the heat.
