stcspiderman
I don't know where the right section is for this. I was wanting to know what good fishing line is I was thinking of buying fireline I want to make sure It is good
mainbutter
Fireline is great, my brother has it spooled on his reels so I got to try it out last summer. My ONLY complaint is that it isn't as "soft" as power pro or some other braids, and so if I tie a leader of fluorocarbon directly with a line-to-leader knot, the fireline cut through the fluoro as I tightened the knot. The solution is to simply use a barrel swivel.I definitely go with braid for pike. I like the no stretch so I can really bury those treble hooks in their bony mouths with a strong hookset. My reels are spooled with power pro and spiderwire. OnAFly
Keep in mind pike can still bite through fireline. That in mind, I love the stuff for casting for pike. Casts great and like MB said, it's no stretch quality is great for hook sets.
tgruenke
I used fireline for one season. It was great but it was a nightmare if you needed to cut it or got snagged. I would still reccommend a leader though.Good Luck
solbes
I use 10/4 Fireline almost exclusively. Tie on a small diameter mono leader for jigging. Tie a thicker fluoro leader for trolling (10 feet or so) or casting lures (3 feet or so). Tie on a steel leader for exclusive pike fishing.I use the uni uni knot for tieing Fireline to either fluoro or mono with no issues at all the last few years. MrSheephead
i use cheapo 8lb mono from wal-mart with wire leaders. i got a huge pike once looked about 4-5 foot in the water swoop up take my inline spinner while fishing for whitebass and the line cut off so effortlessly man seeing the size of what could have been a trophy pike be lost like that is just a feeling of disrespect for me... after that i stopped by to buy some 6 inch 30lb wire leaders
jwmiller33
i use cheapo 8lb mono from wal-mart if there was one thing i wouldn't go cheap on, it would be line, as that is the only thing connecting you to the fish your reeling in
Greyhairedpiker
Have used 20 lbs Fireline Cystal for the pass few years with a leader. Spinning gear, 7ft poles, throwing & trolling, jigging, cranks, spinner baits & swim baits. Great performance & Never lost a pike on this line. juniordo1
I use Fireline 20/8. You can pull in a pike and 10lbs of weeds with it. You can also straighten out hooks and pull your canoe/boat to the snag. I would agree that when you are snagged on trees, rocks, etc, it can be a drag but I've never lost a fish due to Fireline breaking. It is my opinion that the hooksets are improved with Fireline and I rarely miss fish that hit my setup. I do use a steel leader with the Fireline.
Comit 2
I found that Fireline will snap when casting bigger spoons and lures on bait casting reels. So I use Fireline only on spinning reels now and use lines like Fireline braid on baitcasters.
mrklean
Fireline is a pail if you get birdsnests, but its one of my fav lines to use for all my fishing. i do have braid line for my musky reel
TapsBug
I now have PowerPro on ALL my rods. From the 2lb dia (10lb test) up to some heavy duty stuff on my Pike and flippin rods.It can be a pain sometimes...but you can feel the fish looking at the lure!! Plus the hook sets are instantaneous. The only rod I keep mono on is my topwater rod (which I also use for crankbaits) so I have a little more give and don't tear out the hooks.I just put the 2lb test dia (10lb) on my ultralight and the thing casts at least twice as far as mono!!I use an improved cinch knot (two passes through the hook eye when possible) or a Palomar knot. One word of warning with any "superline" be VERY careful when pulling on your line if your lure is snagged. The stuff will slice through your finger like a razor blade! I always wrap it around my plier handles.Fireline is ok...I prefer PowerPro....it is a lot "limper". juniordo1
I have never snapped my Fireline casting spoons or heavier lures and I have a Shimano bait caster. For me there was a learning curve with Fireline in my bait caster. Right away I could feel the sharp tug when I thumbed the spool with heavier lures.I had to fine tune my thumb to slow the line/spool before stopping it.Before Fireline I lost a few lures with mono due to my heavy thumb. One was a $12 lake trout spoon.

I haven't personally broken one but I have had to lend people rods in the BWCA when they broke the only setup they brought!
Nick Kuhn
The reason Fireline doesn't work well on baitcasters is it isn't round so it doesn't spool as well. The rounder braids (Fireline is fused) spool much smoother so it comes off the baitcaster spool much more smoothly.
Comit 2
I love fireline on my spinning gear. I will no longer use the non-braid fireline on my bait casting gear. You need a little give in your line when using casting gear or your line will snap on long casts with pike size lures.
cowdisciple
Agree. I also had a problem with the fireline on my casting reel biting so deep into the spool that I had to cut the whole mess out. What a pain.
fishmounter
Spooled up 14 lb.Fireline cystal on my baitcaster and it's excellent casting great no backlash, long distance and very sensitive when reeling baits in.
