I have a goal this year to catch more fish in clear water. I have heard using stinger or trailer hooks is a huge advantage (with jigs, spinners etc)....I've never done it before. looking to tap the vast knowledge of this forum for any and all advice...thanks

Ive never thrown a stinger hook on a bass jig. Not once.. if tournament fishing I have a trailer on my spinnerbaits.. but if just fishing for fun I do not. I like to be able to unhook the fish easier. But if i am being really honest.. I dont throw a spinnerbait all that much.

Hiya -

I occasionally put a trailer hook on a buzzbait, but even that's rare. When I'm fishing spinnerbaits it's most often in rushes where trailer hooks are a nightmare. If I'm getting hit short on something I'm way more inclined to find something they'll hit better than put in a trailer hook.

As Deitz alluded to if I were fishing tournaments I might have a different attitude, but just fishing for the fun of it I don't bother.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

In ultra clear water, you may want to use something a little more subtle like a swim jig, no need for a trailer hook on that.
