bassNspear
Just curious what you all perfer. From what i have gathered, Motor Guide is Huge down south, and Minn Kota Huge up here. So, what do you run and why? Thanks
CRFan1
I have a Minn Kota 70 Pound 24v power drive.... Mainly because the autopilot and co-pilot kick major behind in my opinion. So far I like it. I used it to catch this on lake michigan Saturday:
SkunkedAgain
They are both good products. Usually in a relatively equal scenario, I go with the product made closer to home because it supports my neighbors. Minnkota.
Larson15
motor guide used to be really big down south but Minn Kota has captured alot of the market down there in the past 3-5 years. From the strong majority I have talked to and from my experience with both, Minn Kota is superior.
walleyewild
I have always used MinnKota, My latest 70# PD V2 with i-Pilot.WW
muddpuppy
Minkota 55# with co-pilot because it rocks, I only wish they made a better foot pedal for it.
BobT
I've used both brands and have no complaints from either. Both seem like quality products.
PerchJerker
It's been a while since I had MotorGuides, and back then I decided to try them because of how popular they were in the South. I went through 3 or 4 bowmount motors and had nothing but trouble with every one of them. I had a transom mount motor that was good but I didn't use it very much so with more use, who knows????. But I'll be staying with Minn Kota.
BobT
Yeah, I should say that my experience with Motorguide is limited to transom mounted. I've used both transom and bowmount from MinnKota though.
CRFan1
Minkota 55# with co-pilot because it rocks, I only wish they made a better foot pedal for it. I agree...with the auto pilot and co-pilot, the thing rocks!! But that foot pedal is a hot mess! I don't use mine too much
marine_man
If you were to buy a new trolling motor, which brand would you buy?
Bassinbob84
I'm not sure why the mason dixon seems to be the divider line for trolling motors but I'm from the north and like my minn Kota. I prefer the cable drive but have a powerdrive right now that is going to need a new footpedal soon.
Swimmer
Motorguide was solid 15 years ago. Minnkota seems to have it's shat together now. I was very disapointed with my 12V PD50 (the white top) because the control board was designed to fail fairly early into it's life. Minnkota priced a new control board at $250 ($25 in parts to make the thing) in order to steer people to new units. After 8 years they yanked the replacement control board off the market. So I was stuck with a relatively low hour PD 50 that I could not get a simple control board for. So what do you do? You have to junk it. Pretty poor customer relations if you ask me...almost makes me want to go to Motorguide.
