i was wondering if i was in the minority here. i was wondering if any body else still gets the shakes when a buck comes into view. i'm talking about the excitement part of it. it's not out of control or anything like that, just that inner shake. especialy right after the shot! i think if it ever stops, it won't be fun any more. just currious.
may that first shot hit the mark----jigglestick----

I agree, the day you don't get the "fever" is the day to quit. Sometimes I'm afraid that the deer is going to hear my heart beating and turn and run. Keeping it under control in order to take a good shot is one of the biggest challenges of the hunt for me, it's also one of the reasons I continue to hunt.

Hey Jiggles...I've spent the better part of the last 32 deer seasons chasing 'em with a bow, shotgun and rifle and it still thrills me. Funny thing is I don't even breath hard when a doe comes down the trail but any buck, even a scrubby spike, will get my heart pounding.
Got lucky a month ago and took a nice 8 pointer with the bow. Been rubbing it in to my hunting buddy until he got a big 11 pt. non-typical last Saturday morning frown.gif (Now he won't let me hear the end of it.
This is my favorite time of the whole year.

The oly time I get the shakes is when I hav'nt hunted for a few days.
Other wise it is a pure adrenaline rush. Is that considered the shakes?
If so the answer is yes.

Last year a doe was beeing chased by a buck that came right under my tree and the buck stopped there and the only way I could get a shot at him is if I squatted so I could take aim under the branch that was in between me and the buck. Now here I am squatting with me shaking like a leaf almost falling trying to get my balance. I am looking through my scope and the buck is so close that I couldn't tell if I was aiming at his chest os his rear end. Well I shoot and get him in the lungs but I couldn't tell and he started running, so I gave him another round just
about the same location and he was down for the count! And talk about the shakes, man, I thought to myself, how can a person do this to himself and not blow a gasket? Oh well I simmered down after a while and was fine!
But the thrill cannot be described for sure!!

well i found out one thing this evening. i don't even have to shoot at a deer to get the shakes--i was sitting right next to my son when he shot his first deer this evening. a nice little spike buck! a comfortable stand just big enough for the two of us to sit together. last year he had a shot just like this one at a doe. same place, same stand, only it wasn't to be. we tracked a wounded deer for a day til we totaly ran out of sign. no luck. he was bummed out for a year. this time was a little different-- he got this one! how cool is that smile.gif big smile on that 13 year old kid.bragin rights at school. he's loving every minute of it. yep we still get the shakes around here!

I get the shakes when I see any deer let alone a buck.

I finally bagged my first buck at 7:30 opening morning. It was a fork, but after I shot it, it ran into a tree and broke one of it's antlers off. I was shaking the whole time. Then that evening I got the shakes all over again when a 6 pointer walked out into the field. Got him too. I was the only one out of five of us to shoot any deer. I think I have bragging rights!! smile.gif

Good Luck,
Rusty

I used to think that I had gotten immune to the shakes caused be a deer - that a turkey could/does get me going, but not a deer.

Uh-huh -sure!

Three years ago - a medium sized 8pt came out of the brush and stared at me - he knew
exactly where I was in the tree - steam was
rising off his back - I could see every inhale/exhale he made - he was maybe about 25 yds from me. Naturally - my gun was pointed the "wrong" way. I'd try to move it when he'd look down/away, and those eyes were right back on me. He finally broke - took off at a trot - I shot twice and missed. He stopped about 40 yds off - I shot a 3rd time - but I was so rattled by that time I don't think I aimed.

Buck Fever - you bet. Big time case of it.

It was kind of fun really.

I did get a 7pt later that day - even he gave me the shakes.
