t-rigged drop shot

Hiya -

Same as Larson, exactly. I use the same sinkers pretty much all the time - either a West Coast Tackle weight or a Lunker City skinny weight. The Skinny weights are great in weeds, but you give up some feel with them I think.

Neither.

For drop shotting I use a 7'2" Shimano Crucial medium/extra fast. It has a very soft tip and is specifically designed for the drop shot. When setting the hook, I would say that it is more of a lift.

I agree, pretty much just pull the hook into them. I am not picky on my sinker as long as it has a swivel on there... I had some line twist issues when I was using the clamp ons... I am having a hard time finding long skinny ones though. Do you guys get them online?

ok.. I started my dropshotting with spinning rod exactly like larson15s.. I then went to the Cumara of the same in just the fast action. But his last year I am using the baitcast crucial. And when I set the hook.. I SET THE HOOK.. I was loosing way to many fishes on jumps and felt I had to dance around the boat so much with the 6lb line.. I am much more comfortable with 10lb floro and a baitcast rod. Its what works for me.. but may or may not be what is best for anyone else.

Hiya -

Tonka - either Tackle Warehouse or direct from Lunker City.

For rods I use one of two set-ups depending on the situation. For vertical along weedlines or fishing right below the sonar cone for suspended smallies, I use a 6'9" medium-light power extra-fast action that's a custom rod built on a Diamondback blank, and 6# fluoro. For longer casts, fishing deep rocks, etc. I use a 7'2" Crucial MH X-fast. The length and additional power really help for setting hooks on fish that are a long ways off or are really deep, but the tip is still really soft. Great drop-shot rod.

Hook set? I do a pretty firm lift as I reel - almost a sweep set like you'd do with a live bait rig but with a little more authority. With open hooks and nose hooked plastics I don't miss many, and even with T-rigged plastics those Owner hooks are nasty sharp and thin - as long as you keep line tight you get most of them.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
