hound32
Does anyone have any reviews of the flip video camcorders? they are very small and seem like they would be nice for in the boat. Does anyone have one or have any reports of one?
PierBridge
I believe DTRO shoots his video's with a Flip Video Recorder! As far as I know he's real happy with it!If compactness ease of use and portability are`what you're looking for the Flip is great option. DTro
You simple cannot beat the ease of use and portability of the thing.I highly recommend it.Most all of my videos on youtube have used the Fliphttp://www.youtube.com/user/DTroFishOnIf you are looking for something to shoot kids activities such as sporting events or school functions, I would look elsewhere, because the zoom is pretty much worthless, but they are great for up close action. On a side note, I recently heard that Cisco paid $600 million for the parent company that developed the Flip (Pure Digital) not only to secure that product, but to also "own" the geniuses that designed it. They plan to use the same design tactics to make their network routers more user friendly. Not only that, but rest assured they will find a way to integrate wi-fi into these small cameras so that a PC will not be needed to upload to the internet. Shack
I have started to recommend people to use the Flip style HD phones from what I have heard Dtro say about them. The latest involved someone who went scuba driving and purchased a water proof case up to 200' also.

Dbl
If you look at the Flip make sure you take a look at the Kodak Playsport, $149 bucks, waterproof and has image stabilization. LMITOUT
How about the one from Sony? The "Bloggie". I saw that in the Target ad yesterday on sale.
DTro
One thing to keep in mind is that the format the video is uploaded to your PC will be compatible with the software you have, otherwise you will have to spend more for that. You can almost always find a free version to watch the video, but when it comes to editing that is a different story. With that said, if I personally was to go out a buy a new camera, I would make sure that it "plays nice" with Windows Movie Maker. Dbl
And there are a few FREE video conversion programs out there that will convert to whatever format you need so I personally wouldn't worry to much about formats. The best free, and it is used by a lot of "indie" movie makers is MPEG Steamclip. A quick search will find it. It has a wealth of codecs and many more available for output to a multitude of fomats. bucketmouth64
I am in the market for a camcorder for general purposes. Went to BB to get information what's out there. Would you recommend getting one with HD, flash drive, or hard drive? What power would you recommend. Looking for one that is easy to use without a lot of bells/whistles. Guy at BB recommended JVC or Panasonic for ease of use. Another person said Sony because they've been in the market the longest. Went on HSO-Classifieds and saw Sanyo has a waterproof one and one brand I never heard of called Speed(from Japan). Any info on these? spearchucker
What is your budget and what OS are you using on your PC? I bought I refurbished Canon HG10 for $399. It is HD with a 40GB hard drive. Looks and works like new.
bucketmouth64
Looking to spend under $300 if possible. Some videos will be for PC and some events to view on tv. What will the pix quality look like on a HD tv if I use a non-HD camcorder? Would it be grainy or wouldn't I notice a big difference. Bobby Bass
I have a Flip and will be making some Bobby Bass Lake I Wanttobethere videos this season. Been testing it now and I like what it does!

I would make sure that it can record in 16:9 widescreen even if you stick with standard definition.
brainard6
I just bought a camera Saturday and I really like it for little I have used it. Its a sony handyman it has 60x optical zoom. 80gb hard drive it also has the place for a sd card if you want to used that. With the hard drive in hdd mode it records about 1200 hours. Oh yeah it does take pictures also. I bought that with a case and total bill was 320 walmart.
ankaka
Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. This happens in every video they take. I will not mention any thing, other than to say, getting a HD camcorder, make sure you have the computer that handle HD video, one clue, You need a multi core processor and both an audio and sound card also. Any thing less and you will have problems with the footage a HD camcorder makes. And Windows Maker does not work with HD video. Try amazon or to have your HD camcorder.
