cjac
My nephew woke up to 3 inches of snow this morning in his boat down in Wood Co. Texas! Doesn't sound like they'll be getting out on Lake Fork today....I'll let you guys know how the week goes for them. Not off to a good start.... mamohr686
Hopefully, I'm heading down there the first week in april. I hope it slows down the spawn and keeps them in the pre-spawn mode. Southern Texas is already 3 weeks behind the normal time of the year they spawn. Tell your nephew to jump ship and drive to choke canyon or amistad where they are smoking the giants right now. Several share-a lunkers brought in last week.
cjac
Latest update after the snow removal: Very cold water temps still (dropping from last week), keep in mind these are mainly Florida strain bass that react more negatively to changes than we experience up here in general, but still averaging a couple dozen fish per boat with a 6.5 and a 7.25lb fish boated along with several 5lb range fish. Sure beats sitting on an office chair typing! Hopefully things will warm up a bit and pick up the latter half of the week. I am doing this trip next year for sure.....Chris
SStracker
I just got back from fishing Fork. We left 6am on March 20th and drove in snow/rain the whole way home with temps from 28-33 degrees. We had great weather while we were on the water though. New personal best 7.6lbs
NTW
Nice fish! Are you familiar with the area and lake or how did you gather info and plan your days on the water?
cjac
Nice fish indeed!!The operative word for the week was cold. Cold air temps and cold water. They spent most of the week not on Fork but a neighboring power plant lake which had a little more stable water temps. Lots of nice fish in the 5-6 range, biggest being the 7.25 fish from Wednesday. Crazy they had 3 inches of snow last weekend in Texas and it looks like this will be the first March going back in record to 120 years without a measurable snowfall here. I'm going on this trip next year for sure!
st.crioxfishin
I also just got back from a trip down south for a couple collegiate events; crazy conditions is right! We fished Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday the 20th in a cold rain, fishing was no good and frustrating. On Sunday we fished table rock in sleet and caught them pretty good on jerkbaits, but we absolutely froze! For the next 5 days we fished Lake Dardanelle in Arkansas in balmy 70 degree temps for the first few days of practice, it was beautiful! On day one we managed an even 20lb bag and led going into day two. On day two we literally and figuratively speared a wave running upriver in a nasty wind that was going against the current. My windshield was smashed to pieces and I lost my electronics on the bow of my boat because of the force of the water. The boat was filled with water and I have never been so freaked out in my life. To top off the day we zeroed and dropped to 5th. A crazy week weather wise for sure!
