Lakemaster chips

Lowrance i-Finder handhelds take Lowrance LM cards in SD format.

The new Lowrance Endura handhelds are supposed to take LM cards in microSD format. Lowrance needs to update their software to read the LM cards and they say they're going to do it, but it's not out there yet. And note that the Enduras take microSD cards, not SD cards.

Garmin units take Garmin LM cards. It needs to be a Garmin card though, you can't use a Lowrance card in a Garmin unit.

Hope that helps.

Boar,

go to lake masters HSOforum and look up the compatibility of the chips. it will list what unit the chips will work in. to my knowledge they work only in the lowrance and garmin units and they just came out with a special chip for humminbird fish finders. They have them in regular sd card format and in micro sd format.

it is their way of making you buy more of their chips.

That's one way to look at it.

Another way to look at it is that almost no new electronics still use SD cards, most of them use microSD cards now. My phones have used microSD chips for years ---- so have Garmin units.

It still sucks if you need to change though

One thing you may want to look into is buying the CD rom and make your own card.

I'm not sure if Lowrance or Hummingbird offers this, Garmin offers this.

The CD rom has its draw backs along with its benefits. The Benefits of the CD rom are you can view the maps on your computer with the added feature of creating your own maps with waypoints and routs and print them or transfer them to the unit. You also have the benefit of making as many cards you want though with an exception.

The exception/Draw back of the CD rom is you can only use those cards you make in two separate designated units and that's all. The chip you buy you can switch to multiple units in its proprietary realm.

As for needing a separate card for Lake of the woods or Rainy I think it has to do with the amount of information on card where the unit can run at a decent speed while scrolling. The more info on the card the slower the unit runs. The new units maybe able to handle the extra info but there are still a lot of units in production that would be effected by to much info on the card.

Boar you just entered an area of confusion, indecision and utterly frustration when it comes to finding the right unit. We all go through it the good news with the new technoligy and new units being offered you will come out on top.

The sad thing is I only use my h20c to find a spot I want to fish on LOW an thats it, what is that about .5% of it's actual capability. Kinda like the housewife that drive a 3/4ton chevy etended cab long box just to go to the salon. Technology moves to fast for this old school boar, thanks for all the replies. I was really looking at the low end lowrance endura an it would just kinda suck to have buy the same chip in a micro card. Anywho. boar

These chip companies should of just made the chip on the micro sd cards and include the adapter that allows you to use a mirco sd card in something that uses regular sd cards. My digital camera use regular sd cards but I have used the micro sd cards in it with the adapter and have had no issues.

The map cards on microSD come with SD adapters so you can use them in older electronics that take SD cards. The problem is the new units that have microSD card slots --- there's no way to use an SD card in a microSD slot.

Your Lakemaster chip that you use in the h2o will not work in the new Lowrance Endura series anyways. The old Lowrance chips will not work in the new Endura stuff. So if you were going to buy a new GPS, look at all brands now that you will have to buy a new chip anyways!

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
